    Hello,
I just purchased a new 2017 tacoma TRD Sport with 6M transmission. I will hopefully take delivery this week. I am hoping to have a remote start system installed. Does anyone have a remote starter with the manual transmission? I would prefer a plug & play installation. Thanks.

In most cases you can't get remote starters on manual transmission since you could park it in gear.

Here is a pic at the dealership. I test drove an Inferno that was on the lot. They had to bring in the blue one for me.

Blue was my original choice, until I saw the Inferno. Still waiting for an allocation on that. :notsure:

Your link is useless since the question is about manual transmission vehicles. I know that solutions exist, but I have not seen any first hand.

This is one of those things I would get a pro to install.

I got the Viper on my MT and it works OK. When you go to park it you put it in neutral, put on the handbrake, depress the clutch and then let go of the brake. After that you press a button on the remote which primes the starter, all the dash lights blink 5 times, it beeps and then you can take the key out with the engine still running. After that, you close all the doors and press the lock button on the remote and it shuts off the engine and locks the doors. To start you just press the start button and it goes. I like it cause I live in a cold ass place but it is a bit of a pain to do the sequence all the time. I also don't particularly like parking in neutral and sometimes when it's really cold I don't like using the parking brake cause it has frozen on before so I just use a block heater and start normally. The other thing I don't like is if you use the non-viper remote (key buttons) then you have to cycle the viper remote through lock and unlock to get it to prime properly. Overall 5/10 would probably not pay for it if it wasn't an extra I got the dealer to throw in for free and don't use it that often.

And that right there is why I gave up on my dream of having a remote start on my M/T. Too much of a hassle for me, and I would much rather have the M/T than the remote start.

That sequencing does not sound like something I want to deal with. The M/T was a must have; remote start is a nice to have. I think I will pass unless there is something that works easier.

yeah I could definitely think of a lot better things to use the $600 they want for the remote on. I was excited when they said I could even get a remote start on the truck and then when I actually got it I was pretty disappointed with it. It's really not that bad if it works though, takes maybe an extra 5 or 10 seconds when getting out of the truck but when you screw it up or used the key buttons and it doesn't work then you're spending a minute pressing buttons and watching flashing lights and it sucks. If your passenger opens the door during the whole deal it fails the sequence too, you either have to make them wait to open their door or let them out and then do it. Girlfriend hates the damn thing always waiting for me to fiddle around with it so I've pretty much stopped using it. If you do get it, just get in the routine of always setting it when you get out of the truck and don't use the key buttons anymore just the viper remote. It became a habit in the winter and I stopped screwing it up and it actually worked alright but probably not worth the price.

That Viper process sounds painful, IMO Compustar is the way to go for MT vehicles.
I've had three, two I installed myself. The process is pretty simple.
    • Neutral
    • Parking Brake
    • Remove key
    • Exit and let car shut off/lock itself
    Skip to 30sec

Have remote start in our MT. It's straight forward to arm. Come to a stop, truck in neutral, lift the hand brake 2 times, take out the key (truck remains running) close the door and hit the lock button to shut off the truck and lock the doors. Done.

    @Mountain Minstrel

FYI @Diablo169 posted this in the Manual transmission thread yesterday... How far are you willing to drive?

Just spotted this at Toyota Santa Cruz today. TRD OR Loaded M/T! and it isn't spoken for! 37K

Yeah, I know it's there but they didn't seem to want to move on the price and I'm getting the basic for 33k. It's killing me but I can't spend that extra $

Well what do you know...they will move on the price. Thank you illogical.

I'll be picking it up hopefully on Thursday. It's got the Premium/Tech package that I really didn't want so I won't be doing any mods for a while, but the wait is almost over

My 1996 manual transmission Honda had a remote starter. No reason why you can't get one in 2017 for your Tacoma.
