My '21 TRD Sport came with the factory remote start. My subscription is about to run out, and if it's possible, I'd like to replace it.
Is that possible? It's a push button start also if that matters.

Wait till it runs out. My Sport came with remote start and I have never subscribed and it still works 1 1/2 years later. Depending on the package you have the remote will work for up to 10 years after the 1 year trial is over.

It should still work with fob. 3 pushes of lock button.

The only advantage is that the cellular app cost is $99 for 3 years. It would be a fairly long pay off though. Likely better to pay Toyota fee for app.

Wow, that's a good deal. In Canada it's $10/month just for the remote start/door lock capabilities. If you want the other features it's another $10/month.

When the subscription runs out you can no longer remote start with the phone app. You can still remote start with the fob. My subscription ran out in my ‘22 this month. My fob still works.

Yeah, but I'm spoiled. I like to start it from my phone.

The truck will also be able to run longer, because 10 minutes isn's enough. I like to defrost my windshield when it's cold out.
I'm looking at replacing it with a Drone like I just put on my 4Runner.

When I bought the truck they told me it came with a free years subscription to their app etc. I told them no, not interested as a app would be no good for where I live because of cell phone signal are very week or none. I did ask if the FOB would still start the truck after the free year and they said they did not know. So I waited and 1 3/4 year later it still works. Then read that it came with the Premium package and would be free for at least 10 years. It is a confusing topic when new to this 3rd Gen.

That's interesting. I know my fob will always be able to start my truck but you have to be fairly close to it to do so. I was told after one year the app subscription expires and I would have to pay monthly to keep the service. I'll see if I can find the 10 year literature you're refering too. That would be great if that was the case. I know my wife pays monthly for hers after her one year on the RAV4 with premium package. Maybe she shouldn't have had too. Thanks.

I thought the subscription was only for cellphone app. If you can start your car with the keyfob then you should be able to do it without subscription. The keyfob activates the remote start box inside of the truck to turn on the truck.

Unfortunately Toyota can disable the fob remote starting as well. There was a big stink over them disabling it and I think they reconsidered.
There were a bunch of threads about it a couple years back.

My buddy has a 2021 Sport and let the remote connect subscription run out. His truck still starts with 3 presses of the lock button. 2 presses then hold on the 3rd.....vroom!

Looks like it was good for 3 years up to 2020. Now 10 years.
Like I mentioned, I think that they made more changes after people complained. Not sure how many years it's free now...

I don't have the premium package on my 2021 sport and my fob still works after the subscription ran out

I thought the remote start (from the app) was a bit gimmicky, until I used it in my 2022 Camry last summer. It was nice to get in an air conditioned vehicle when it's 110 degrees outside.
