I am thinking about trading my 2009 for a '17 and wonder if Toyota is finally offering a remote start accessory for Tacoma. I installed a Clifford system on my 2009 and I suppose I could do it on the new one, but it would be nicer to have a factory setup if it is available.

But if if a factory remote start isn't available, does anyone here have the remote start wire chart for the Gen 3s?

Than's cap'n. Do you have one of these? It looks like it is all in one and no separate bypass module required? How far is the factory fob range for remote start?

Would have to ask him. I don't own one. Just seen good reviews throughout TW.

The KBVoodoo remote start (or any remote start really) from what I read, will start the truck. However, when you get in the truck, the engine will shut off and you will have to turn it on again as you normally would. Not a big deal, but for some people that was a deal breaker.

Not a big deal, I guess, but not as sophisticated as the Cliffords/Vipers that remain running unless you press on the brake before turning the key on. I really like the Clifford I put in my 2009 but it was a fairly involved install with bypass module and such. And the Clifford has a good quarter mile range that lets me start the truck from out my office window when the truck is several hundred yards away. Not sure the factory fob/KBVoodoo will have that kind of range.

You can get a Factory remote stat added into the 2017 Tacoma's at the Sport, Platinum, or TRD Pro Trim levels. It runs you about $500.00 and gets a Toyota Warranty as well. If you are looking for a new Toyota in Maryland give me a call and let me help you out (301) 631-0089 ext. 11016. ~ Heather Koons Westminster Toyota

This applies to the push to start vehicles. KBVoodoo makes a nice kit but I opted to go with a Viper system due to the very limited range of the factory key fob. If the range isn't an issue for you, got with the KB kit

$500 installed is more expensive than my viper alarm/remote start installed! The KB remote start system is only $129

Yes, range is an issue so not sure the factory system will work for me. I'd like to hear a report of the factory system range. And if I do a DEI system I will install myself... assuming I can find the necessary wiring information. These things can be pretty complicated and many installers aren't very knowledgeable. But looking at the KBVoodo it appears that the push to start Tacomas have an almost plug 'n play install. I wonder if Viper makes a specific kit that would install like the KBV. Need to research.

The factory remote start and KB kits are limited by the range of the key fob. I would suggest testing your lock/ unlock functions from the key fob at multiple distances to see if it works for you. For me, the key fob had connection issues at approx 50 ft so I opted for Viper

    This ^^^

For me, the factory fob has more than enough reach, but I don't work in a high rise building.

I start my truck from the shower every morning (it goes through a few walls to do it), and from my office every night (going through two walls, one of them concrete).

I got mine in. It's a 6spd manual. Use the phone to start it. Drone. And if u unlock the truck it will NOT stop it. As if you have the push start it will stop when u open the door.
