I’m looking into getting remote start for my Tacoma and I’m wondering if there is a remote start kit out there that doesn’t have to be put into ready mode?
    (I have H-key 6spd manual)

Also if anyone has experience with N2’s kit..How is it dealing with “ready mode? Any opinions on the kit?

Thank y’all in advance for any advice

I am curious as well since I have always had a starter living here in the Northeast. I've never had one on a manual but want to pick this up.

One complication is that with a manual transmission, normally the clutch must be depressed for the engine to start. That means that a remote start system must somehow activate the "clutch start cancel" switch.

ETA: It turns out that the N2 Designs remote start kit for the manual transmission does indeed activate the "clutch start cancel" switch.

This is a clever engineering solution. I grant that it does have a certain coolness factor.

Considering the expense of the kit, and the complexity of installing it, I don't see any scenario of need that would justify it. Warming up the truck on a snowy day, and you don't want to go outside in the cold? You're eventually going to have to brave the cold anyway to clear the snow off the truck. Want to start your engine remotely because you think the Mafia has wired explosives to the ignition? Get real.

N2 is the only one who makes any sort of remote start for the MT, to my knowledge. I could be wrong but "ready mode" is little more than having the truck in neutral and making sure "clutch start cancel" is pushed.

I still remember when I was in school, my buddy came running in the shop, thought his car was stolen. It was at the bottom of a very large and fairly steep hill, wrapped around the concrete base of a light post. He parked it in neutral so he could use the remote start, and apparently the parking brake wasn't onboard with that plan.

also, I never use my parking brake when its wet and freezing out or when I've driven in the snow or ice, to ensure the parking brake cables havent or dont get frozen and lock up. Dont know how you manual guys will address that when in freezing or cold climates. Unless you are pretty sure your ebrake system wont freeze up...

We are ;). And ready mode is something you all do when done driving...foot on brake pedal, shifter in neutral, e-brake up, foot off brake pedal. You DON'T touch the clutch cancel button...we do it for you as @NoVa TRD Sport kindly mentioned :)

Is there anything that prevents it from remote starting while in gear?

That's the ready mode. The remote start takes over, it shuts the truck off when you close the drivers door. There is no way for you to leave it in gear. Anything upsets the ready mode (door opened, brake pressed, etc), then it won't remote start. I suppose you could roll your windows down, get it in ready mode, then put it in gear through the closed door....but for all practical purposes, it's a flawless system.

My truck is always garaged so just cold and at 5am it's nice to jump in a warmed up truck and go.
I found the install easier than most other electronic gadgets. I'd just wait until there are a few things you want to install and hit them all at once.

Have the N2 designs starter, installed it 2 years ago, no issues with it. Took me about an hour and a half to install it from start to finish, thats with my OCD of neatly zip-tieing all wires and organizing it all cleanly behind the dash. Live in the midwest and LOVE having the remote module where i can start it from ANYWHERE in the building, lock and unlock, and also GPS. Def worth the money spent on it IMO. The priming stage really isn't too big of a factor for me, and the neutral-brake-ebrake-foot off the brake steps to prime really was what i 'normally' did anyways when i turned off my truck. I just need to slow the steps down a bit now, otherwise sometimes it doesn't prime it. Only 'downside" is that once you prime it, if you forget something in the truck and need to get back in it, it cancels your prime and you wont be able to remote start it when you need. Other than that, I love it.

@N2DesignsInc , any chance of a system for a 2nd gen(2015) manual? Dying to install a remote start but I need it plug'n'play as I refuse to hack up my harnesses.
