Remote Start expiring?

Hello! I have a soon to be one year-old Tacoma that I bought with a remote starting option, but I have to use the app to use it. It was sold to me with a premise that it has a remote starting capabilities, given how cold the winters are here in New England. Today, however, I got a notification saying that certain service are expiring and I have to pay close to $100 a month to keep them going. Before I go to my dealer to inquire about this, I wanted to see if anyone else has had this problem? If this is true that my remote starting capability is going to disappear without me, paying for a subscription service Can you recommend me an aftermarket option to keep remote starting capability of the truck?

 

Try this, go to your truck with the key fob, press the lock button 3 times. On the 3rd press hold the button until the lights start flashing to confirm the remote start, takes about 5 seconds on my truck.

 

I received the same notification and declined continued service.

Remote start still works without the subscription.

On my 2021 Tacoma I have to push the unlock button 2 times and hold it the 3rd time to remote start it.

Mine just expired. Tried once to see if it worked the day I picked up the truck, never again. I wouldn't pay $8/month. Then another $8/month for the other 2 services. It's a joke. The s.o.s. is cell based service that won't even work in the northern woods of NH when you need it.

 

Be happy you don’t have a BMW. My wife has to pay for Apple Car play

 

Some of them you have to register the battery to the car.
And there are some with no engine oil dipstick. Hopefully here’s isn’t one of those.

I hope this isn’t a sign of the future.

You don’t need all three services just for the remote connect.

 

I just bought a tacoma and am trying to learn about this. This is from toyota.s website....

"Before using Key Fob to remotely start/stop your vehicle, the following information must be confirmed:

• Your Toyota vehicle must be "Remote Connect capable."

• Connected Service Trial or Paid subscription is "Active."

Note: Key Fob Remote Start will not function if Connected Services have been waived."

 

Always heard you have until the original warranty expires to buy the extended warranty so, maybe one could still purchase Connect Service ?

 

It’s $8 a month for remote start along with a vehicle locate feature. I plan on buying it at least for a year , I like the convenience but I will consider dumping it after I move south

 

I would’ve loved to of had a remote start when I lived in Florida and Georgia. Would’ve been much more useful than remote start in North Central Indiana, in the winter

 

I do not have "connect services", so to my knowledge cannot order my truck to start while my plane is arriving ay the airport. But I can still remote start from the fob when I am standing in range.

My advice is to try the 3-click (2 short, one long) before you buy anything. But you do as you wish.

 

I heard that it does still work after the connected services expire. I'm still on the 1 year free trial though. I suppose even if it was the case that the remote worked afterwards that Toyota would have stopped it with a software update. Maybe I got outdated info.

 

My 2011 has no dipstick . . . goberment compliance and all; no dipstick = less engine 'volume'

I had to drive a few hot laps around where I live yesterday to get the electronics to tell me how much oil was in there
Took way longer than it should have; pissed me off pretty good

When I last did the battery, it had to go to the dealer to be coded - not sure I'll do that one again; maybe just roll the dice and find out

 

Wow, that sucks, hope the oem remote~ 3 times lock button works for you. (Guess you'll know in 7 days).

"If" you lose it and dont want to pay $100/m, I recommend a 2 way~Long range starter. I can start the Taco in the change rom after Hockey and come out to a running Taco. Same thing at work.

Also works close range with the oem remote.
