I did search but no results found :( I have added a rear bumper with Spare Tire swing out. So backup camera is blocked. I would guess I'm not the first to want to relocate or add different located camera?

Saw a link to Pelfrybilt relocation bracket but link is dead :(

On my F250 I was able to buy another stock camera as it had the pigtail on camera. Looks like the 2nd gen camera just plugs into the cable at the handle?

I APPRECIATE any advice or suggestions :)

2012 TRD Sport if that is needed

You may be able to find a trashed tailgate in the proper year range at the junk yard with the camera
and harness that leads from the tail gate to the connection at the bed. This harness could be spliced
to make your harness long enough for relocation. You may have to custom fab a box to mount it in.

it's all part of the hockus pockus of altering the stock format.

Hey I actually just did this the last week on my 2012 Sport. I had to extend the wires and I used a Mobtown offroad camera bracket. I believe C4 Fab makes a kit that includes wires as well. For the hole that's left in the tailgate handle, I took a spare piece of plastic, painted it black, and epoxied it in there so there's no hole.

Let me know if you have any questions, and I'd be glad to help!

Kind of figured some company would make a kit to extend the wires and relocate the camera...

Toyota vendors are the mothers of invention. :broccoli:

It all depends on where you want to locate it. And personal preference.

I don't know what it is, but there should be a Toyota OEM P/N for the plastic piece that fills the hole. My truck did not come with a backup camera but had all the wiring pre-installed. I added a camera and there was a plastic piece plugging the hole from the factory. Probably fairly cheap.

Interesting... I actually never thought of that. I'll give Toyota a call today and see what's the part number and how much it is!

Bought this kit and it was delivered yesterday. I know cost was something to consider as I could "Macguyverize" my own. That said this mount is SOLID and VERY well designed!!! Glad I went this route... THANKS to all that helped and to CB4 for nice build!

Did you ever find any sort of plug to fill in the factory tailgate hole?

I want to say there is an OEM part number since trucks without the backup camera in early 2009-2011 had them plugged, but I wasn't able to find a part number from Toyota. I just ended up using some thick plastic, bedlined black and epoxied it from the backside to fill the hole. After a year or so I upgraded to an electronic pop and lock tailgate that doesn't have a camera hole in it. Hope that helps!

Another great way to do this is to install nice head unit and a second backup cam that plays on it... leave some extra slack in the cable back at the rear bumper and use some GoPro snap mounts to move and locate the cam where you need it... onto a spare tire, a bike rack or whatever you have back there that blocks the OEM cam. Here is an example I made for my bike rack. I have another GoPro mount on the license plate for the cam when the bike rack is off the truck. This has some 3D printed parts for the bike rack but if you just have a spare tire alls you would need is the GoPro mount and maybe some sticky tape.

    I just purchased from tailgatecamera.com
The video has a pretty solid walk through with a link for the purchase. Lets you keep the original camera in the tailgate and just plug in a new camera, mount where you want, and you're set. $150 and took about 3 days to arrive.

I just installed this kit on my truck but since I've got a camper shell I attached it up high. There was juuuuust enough provided wire to make it work with the camera mounted way out on the drivers side, which is what I wanted anyway to avoid the spare. Just an FYI for anyone else with a swingout who wants a super simple relocation for the backup cam.

I took the provided license plate bracket and cut it down to better fit the spot on the shell.

Nice! I got one of these on the way from tailgatecamera .com ,How accurate are your gridlines with the high mount location?

Not sure yet since it's only been driven around my yard so far. Should be good to go since I can see where the spare is and that's the furthest thing sticking out on the back.

i also bent the bracket to aim it a little more toward the center given its position
