35s on a daily driver? Unless you rock crawl on the weekends, going down a little in tire size and weight will have a greater impact on drivability than regearing.

If you must stay on 35s, yeah a regear is basically necessary. Use tiresize.com to calculate what gear ratio you want. 4.88s will net better mpg. 5.12s will net lower crawl ratio.

I would go 5.29 bc you already are 4.30 and 4.88 is small bump then only.

According to nitrogears website, they also suggest the 5.29 for your setup OP

This is a complexly subjective question. Do you like your total gear ratios more or less than the stock total gear ratios?

By total gear ratio I mean transmission gear ratio * diff gear ratio * tire circumference.

You can get back to stock with 4.88. If you want lower than stock, you can go 5.29.

You increased your tire diameter (and thus the circumference) by 13%.

    35/31 = 1.13

4.88 gears will decrease gear ratio the same amount, getting you back to stock.

    4.88/4.3 = 1.13

5.29 gears will get you lower than stock.

    5.29/4.3 = 1.23

Don’t listen to subjective opinions from the guys with autos. They have a different diff ratio of 3.9, different transmission gear ratios, and can’t (baring s-mode, ECT, and a ECU tune) choose their shift points. I mean no offense to those with autos. I’m just saying that the two transmissions are different beasts.

Lots of info on diff gears here:

Personally, I have 33s and I’m fine with stock gears. I will reevaluate if and when I go to 35s. I have an itch for 35s.

I watched a video awhile back and the owner of Nitro Gears was suggesting in most cases 5.29 is not overkill for 33’s and up. I am not an expert but I would call them or Sibi in CA and ask the question. I am not manual either but Sibi does them all day long and I’m sure they can speak to the manual transmission.

Personally I run 34's with 4.56 gears and even with a steel number and sliders it pulls pretty damn hard. 34s also require way less cutting to fit.
