I haven't even bought my Tacoma yet, so I don't know if I have the right to post on here... but here I go. My question is this:

Is the red interior an option that is going to look dumb in 5 years?

I have settled on a Cement exterior, and I thought I wanted a cement interior. However, my local dealership only has a cement exterior with red accent interior. Then I thought some more, and a grey vehicle with grey interior can be seen as simple with no color. The red interior might provide that splash of color that cars need (maybe?).

I know this question nearly requires subjective answers, but I wanted to hear others' thoughts before laying down all that money.

I wouldn’t buy one with red interior. But like you said, it’s always personal preference.

I wasn't aware Red interior was offered in a Tacoma. But to answer your question, I don't see why red will look dumb in the future as it has always been a desired color in high-end sports and luxury cars.
I would have chose red if it had been available for my '18 TRD Sport. I did chose it for my C7 GrandSport.

    Here's some examples.

I wasn't aware a red interior was an option either! Maybe that is something the dealer did on their own. I have not seen anything anywhere that shows that red is an option on a tacoma. However, I DO understand why you might want something other than the dull awful interior "choices". I have that in quotes, because they really don't give you much in the way of choices of interior colors. I hated the interior of the Tacomas, but thought I would get used to it. I did not! So after finally having enough, this past February 2020, in collaboration with my local auto upholsterer, I had my interior redone with faux leather. Here is a video that shows the process, before and after. HUGE IMPROVEMENT! [in my humble opinion]

    Lots, straight from the factory.
I had a Bimmer with red interior. It was quite beautiful.

I had a 1988 325ix that was dark silver with red seats, my dad had a matching one that was black with red. I always like the e46 model with red though the best.

Red interior has always looked like a tarts handbag to me. But if it looks good to you now, not sure why it would look dumb in 5 years, it’s not like it’s the latest fashion that will look dated in a few years. Even classics I love from the 60s look like shit to me with red interiors, but probably look good to you, so if you like it and it’s available, go for it.

I would like to see pictures of this truck. Red seat covers, or just dash accents? How it looks now might be a clue in how it ages.

Oh, and guilty. :anonymous: I'm running red vent rings in an MGM taco...

They are red accents. Here are some photos below. The seats aren't red, which is what I made it seem like.

Oh right, they are still doing that door card thing. I gotcha. Thats a tough call on the cement. Not sure that I dig it with the SR5 light gray headliner. Personally I think its going to phase in and out of fashion like the eddie bauer package on a 1990 ford. But if you like it now, get it now.

Lol regarding the Eddie Bauer Ford SUVs. Man, that name used to mean something a LONG time ago.

OP, I have those red panels. I didn’t mind them when I bought the truck, and I still don’t mind them after several years, but I’m not super fussy and I have a red truck, not grey. Are you the type where it might bother you down the line? Some people are more impressionable or obsess about stuff once they “see something” a different way. Also, I would imagine they make resale a bit harder if you are looking for a third party sale.

    Color can be fun!

I've had quite a few cars with red interior, including my current car and it actually holds up quite well. Doesn't fade any more than other colors and does't show scratches and scuffs as bad as black.

The below red leather is 34 years old and like new.

Im actually pretty surprised there are not more people doing custom interiors. We have people doing all sorts of custom suspension, bed, bumpers, racks and stereos... but people just buy seat covers and call it good.

I recently test drove a 2020 Tacoma with the red glove box & red upper door panels. I believe it was just like the photo in previous FARGO TACO post on 04-12-2020.

I personally didn't care for it -- My sentiments were also shared by a few sales/support folks at the dealer. However, my veteran sales guy said, "Regardless of color, someone will see it, like it & buy it".

    Cool stuff
I would have been all over the red interior option .... wish they still did the red stitching in the seats
