Not sure if this is the right place to post this. Was wondering if there is already a thread for recommended mechanics that really specialize in Tacomas. I realize that most mechanics work on almost any vehicle and may not necessarily specialize in only one but this came to mind when I was in Pawling NY today. Downey Automotive had Tacomas all over the place - like close to ten of them. Joe told me he specializes in Tacomas (and subarus). Saw a really nice dark grey (MGM?) 1st gen CC there just pulling out.

Would be nice if we had a place on here that listed mechanics all over the country that really knew these trucks. Just a thought.

Having worked for a dealer I wouldn't ever take it to one! Ha!

getting a quality regional list is a good idea but maintaining it is difficult. go to your regional forum and just ask in there. if you have a regional forum that's active then you'll get fresh quality results. but i realize not all areas have a good regional forum.

Even if you don't care to DIY, you just need to know how to pick a mechanic.

Or you can keep paying 30-50% more and hoping the minimum wage trainee isn't the one filling your service order.

wow i didn't even see that! yeah if you trust your dealer's service across the board and distrust Independents across the board then there will be lessons coming eventually. unless all you ever need is oil changes and your luck with those is consistently good.

    correct meme btw. lol

You can shop around at different dealers for best price . the none dealer ones tend to charge u and then give u grief when the repair fails . dealers will back up there work .

Having worked on almost every major brand, I think people are misguided to think that they get better work by a mechanic that specialized in a brand such as a dealer tech. The only exception to that are specialty vehicles such as a rotary engine or something exotic. A good mechanic is a good mechanic. While there are good mechanics at car dealers, you are rolling the dice because for every good one, there are ten that are nothing more than parts replacers.

Medication, Walmart, hot pockets. Those three things have kept morons alive who would otherwise be something else’s food.

Hey thanks for all the responses. I was thinking more like if someone was doing a cross country trip and had a mechanical issue, it sure would b nice to have a list of qualified mechanics to check on here to see if someone was local (without having to ask in a forum then wait/hope for a response). I know dealers are “qualified” but they charge coin and I know many independents are great.

Really the only way to do it is someone take an Interest, start a thread, link a spreadsheet and constantly update that spreadsheet.
    Are you that guy?

i was asking if such a thread already existed. Seems not. Maybe just a list of posts for each regional forum. It would auto-update as folks add to it.
