I called to schedule my first "free" service today. I was told there is a recall on my truck. Anyone know what it might be? A Toyota mechanic said it was a reflash of the computer but, didn't know any more.

Yes, I just took my Tacoma in this morning for an inspection and third brake light recall. They said there was also a computer update. Mine is a 16 so not sure what years it applied to?

They also said it would be done by 1. It's currently 1:01, LIARS

I saw, on the "Automotive News International" youtube channel that Toyota is supposed to stop turning off the engine when you open the door after a remote start on the Tundra's. Kind of hoped that would work its way into the Tacomas.

@tonered, know anyone with TIS access to verify this? Seems new if it's a recall...

Interesting, I know a lot of people don't like that is shuts the truck off.

I've never been a fan of remote start so none issue for me.

There are no Recalls showing for the 2021s:
    upload_2022-4-8_11-22-47.jpg

Although there was a Technical Instruction (attached) posted under the Manufacturer Communications where TSBs can be found. It looks like it is a Service Campaign to update something on the Telematics (Connected Services BS).

I had my fill there when we had a car with OnStar. Just 100% useless garbage, in my own opinion.

I think sometimes the features can be nice, but I hate subscription services with a passion, and hate knowing they can track my truck even though I know they are not.

We test drove the 'features' during the free period and were completely underwhelmed. I do agree on subscriptions and tracking, but then, that is just normal life these days.

At the time (early-2k), the robust cellphones of the day were superior tech to what was in the car. Same goes for today. OEMs just don't care to admit it.

    Different. A Service Campaign.

Unless you are asking what a TSB is?

    The good ole "It's a recall". It's a TSB! It's a campaign!

I received a letter the other day for my Canadian 2021 Pro.

It was for the connected services....something about not being able to communicate with the call centre in the event of an emergency. Something like that. I filed it in the "who cares" part of my office for now.

They are all very different things and can have consequences for owners. For example, it is being said that you can't sell cars in some places with open Recalls. Service Campaigns at least get notice to owners. TSBs often have very beneficial improvements, but we know what kind of dance that can be.

Should folks have to know about these things? Nope, but the dealers are almost never an advocate for their customers, so . . .

Just had mine in at 2500 miles. This is exactly what they said about mine.

I was hoping they finally came around to not making the remote start a subscription and not having the truck cut off when you open the door.
