    Hello all,

I am currently experiencing the throttle body issue on my '04 Tacoma 3.4L.

    My situation:
Cruising speed; lift foot slightly, but not completely off accelerator, and RPM's fluctuate going in more the downward direction than increasing and truck starts to dive slightly as if braking; no stalling or intense jerking going on. Upon pressing accelerator during the power fluctuation, no acceleration or transmission shift response. Pump a couple of times and it finally straightens up. I have noticed if I attempt to go to the floor, I am unable and met with resistance in the pedal only allowing me to go halfway down until it feels like a tennis ball is under the pedal and I am trying to compress it. I do not continue pressing as I am unsure what would be damaged.

I have read much about the TPS and throttle body replacements due to this. As well, I have read about the 100+ pedal pump remedy. I will try the pump to see what happens. Otherwise, has anyone had experience or know if this semi-electronic throttle body on the '03-'04 Tacoma's can be rebuilt? What might be required to tackle the rebuild instead of purchasing a new TB to the tune of $900+ (best new I could find - not too thrilled about another used ($300+) and it possibly failing.)?

    Thoughts or other realistic remedies?

In the event anyone runs across this thread with the same issue...it was the throttle sensor mounted on the back of the throttle body. I followed a thread I found somewhere about removing that sensor, cleaning it up, tapping it gently, then replacing with loc-tite applied to new allen head bolts for easy removal in the future. The small phil heads can strip easy and cause a major problem with the TB housing and so on. I had a hickup a couple of times, but this throttle issue has not happened in quite a while. I even found an Asian supplier online that has these throttle sensors available, but seems to require a bulk order. Either way, it never resorted to that for me.

Look to see if there is a gap between the the butterfly and the throttle body wall.

If there is it needs to be fixed.

    http://www.maxbore.com/

Can rebuild the throttle body by cleaning the whole unit in an ultrasound cleaner and installing a new
Butterfly after the throttle body is bored out just a bit for 125.00

But be warned he’s very busy and can take two - three weeks to do it.

He took a month for mine to be fixed, luckily for me the one he rebuilt is a spare
So I didn’t have any down time
