Hello everyone. My wheel bearings on my 2005 trd off-road tacoma 2wd went out a little over 8 months ago. So I bought some front hub assemblies from Detroit axel (I thought they were a reputable firm and the price was nice). Since my car was older I thought I’d just change the whole assembly and I replaced them. Now, 8 months later, they are so bad that I don’t want to drive my truck as I’m sure my wheels will fall off any day now (they are seriously bad)! Now I need to buy new front hub assemblies as I do not want these cheap ones on my truck anymore and I junked the old ones after a few months, thinking I was good. Can anyone recommend some reasonably priced front hub assemblies for me to buy? I don’t want to break the bank but I would really hate to change them a third time!

I buy a lot of parts from 1Aauto so I figured I’d buy from them but they were out of stock. They sell TRQ brand so I looked up where to buy them and stumbled across some Amazon reviews saying that these things break upon 1 thousand miles and that their wheels literally ripped off. So I’ll pass on them. Again any help is useful, thanks guys.

I’d prefer to buy off a website instead of someone from Tacoma world. Anyone know of any preassembled hubs I can buy online? With that being said though, I’ll still check that guy out.

Have you looked at Rock Auto? Last time I saw they had some complete SKF branded hub assemblies with bearings for around $108 ea. SKF bearings used to be considered one of the best of the best. Its possible there is an OEM Koyo inside because of all the reboxing that occurs. And there is a TW discount if you look at the vendors section herein.

Are OEM koyos good or bad? I’m not familiar with a lot of these brands. Thanks for the recommendation.

    @Live4KingJC

    1. If you want the cheapest but from a reputable website/corporate vendor: buy from RockAuto.
You get to choose the price point and reputation of the non-OEM replacement part.

    2. If you want a quality part from a corporate vendor, buy from one of the many toyota dealerships that sell online.

    3. If you want a quality part from a reputable private vendor, @05Taco4x4 is the guy to buy from. There's no need to hesitate about getting ripped off, receiving junk, etc.... from him. His reputation here precedes himself. BUT, HE DOESNT DO PRE-RUNNER HUBS. Or at least, its a special order for him.

The route I would take is to buy these prerunner hubs in this thread as long as you have stock spindles. Its a no brainer if you ask me.

Here is the answer to the question above for anyone who is looking for front hub assemblies like I am. Apparently this is a hard question to answer, because of all the forums I’ve seen asking for help regarding hubs, it’s always a copy and paste to another forum of some dude selling hubs instead of just saying which hubs brands are the best. Anyways, I found partsgeeks.com after days of looking and it offers all the different types of brands and types of hub assemblies (because there are 4 types or so). Make sure you find the hub that fits your specific vehicle. After tons of research I found that SKF is the best brand there. If you only want wheel bearings and not assemblies then I say go with Koyos, Timken, or NSK. I recommend that if you need any hubs to look here instead of paying almost twice as much for custom ones on TW. I am ordering mine soon. I found that other websites like yota bearings sell the same stuff for more, why would you want that? https://www.partsgeek.com/catalog/2...el_bearing.html?rp=wheel_bearing_assembly_set

I’ll make another post with all this information because I think it’s useful.

I already did a write up using this info and waiting to send it. Should I wait to see if the skf branded ones are real or post the write up anyways and edit it as info changes? I think as long as the bearings are those brands it should at least be a quality part. So I posted the thread.

Most important part of the install is to torque the axle nut to spec. If it's not done correctly, the wheel bearing will fail.

Well that goes without saying. This was just about which brand to buy. Also for 2wd that’s not an issue.

Dont think I'm going with SKF, the garage guys say stick with Toyota parts for this application.

Going to try and get them from @05Taco4x4

I bought 2 for an 09 2X4 PreRunner from @05Taco4x4. They were not in stock so they were not immediately shipped, but only took about a week to get them. They are high quality and better than anything you will buy from Rockauto, Autowhatever store, or Ebay. Highly recommend these and you can trust him.

I know you're just trying to help, but between this thread and the new one he started OP seems pretty adamant about not wanting any more recommendations for these.

The ones I bought on Amazon were fine. I didn't go for the absolute cheapest option though, not sure if those are the ones with the bad reviews you're talking about.
