The rearview mirror on our three week old Tacoma just fell off while my husband was adjusting it. Not only did it come off, but so did a round chunk of the glass. The dealership says no way would that happen when "just adjusting" the mirror and will not replace the wind shield. Its possible that a rock hit the windshield on the freeway, however there is not a blemish whatsoever on the outside of the glass.
Has anyone else experienced this? and what did you do?

also find it pretty hard to believe the mirror would take a piece of the windshield with it from any sort of normal adjustment...

It is totally true. the size of the "chunk" is where the glue affixed the mirror to the glass. We were shocked and supposed a rock hit the outside and caused this failure. But, like I said, there is no damage to the outside.
Hook78: thank you for your suggestions!
We will report to our insurance company. I just think absurd that dealer (on a brand new vehicle)(we don't even have our plates yet!), isn't more helpful. If this is a known issue they should install better glass, manufactured by them or not. I am so unhappy with this. I want my Rav4 back :(

when you speak to dealers, do not give any detail beyond the problem. "it just fell off" is what you should say. It seems they will take any excuse to not fix stuff these days. Take it to another dealer and just say that it fell off, or you opened the truck door and it was on the floor. don't mention ever touching it in any way.

Through my many junkyard expeditions, when I try to remove rear view mirrors, they usually take a chunk of glass with them lol

that said, must have been a very forceful adjustment.

i usually hit them with a wrench/hammer when it happens
