I posted this yesterday in the suspension section of the forums, but I haven't had much traffic there. Thought I might as well ask here.

Hey everyone, so I will be doing a big upgrade on my suspension here soon and I need some help with the rear. I want my rear to be close to level with the front which will be at about 6 inches. My plan is to go with the armor tech shackle flip kit and the extended shackles along with OME dakars. This setup will leave me with around 4.75 inches of lift, but now I need to find a shock with travel that can work. I do not want to bust the bank so I want to try to go with bilstein. I have found the bilstein 5165's which seem like a good choice. They offer custom travel lengths which is what I need. I know that armortech says their system can hold about 27 inches extended with STOCK leafs, but since I will have the Dakars, I am not sure if I can hold more travel. I also need help with valving selection.

    Any input helps, thanks!

BDS has fox shock meant for a 6 inch lift. Or go with custom set of kings.

Yeah I want to get the most travel I can out of the setup so the right rear shocks are gonna make it or break it.

It looks like the 985-24-118 would suit me great! They go with 3.5-5 inches of lift.

What about the Bilstein 5100 B110. The have a lot of travel. 10+ inches if I remember right and they are designed for a 4" lift. But they are 16.34" compressed, so you will need to check what your specs on your truck.

Keep in mind you’ll be limited to a 10” shock in the stock location, unless you want to seriously sacrifice uptravel. I have the bilstein b110 (a 10” shock) and really like them. This is with Dakar’s and b110 and nothing else, and shocks are still my limiting factor. You’ll be capable of even more droop because of the shackle flip.

If you really want to take full advantage of the flex, you’ll want to relocate your rear shock and run a 12” or 14” shock. The archive garage relocate is capable of a 14” shock, whereas the bamf one is only good for 12”.

I'm still looking at the bilstein 5165 which are available in different extended lengths. I was looking at the 16.9 collapsed and the 28.5 extended. Correct me if I'm wrong, but those are still 10 inch or are they longer?

Well technically they'd be a 11.6" shock, because that's how much travel they have. I just double checked the B110 and they have 10.94" of travel, so they're a little bigger than I thought.

Anywho, the B110 collapsed length is 16.34". On my set up, I bottomed out my shocks by 1/3" before hitting bump stops, so that's no good. I spaced out my bumps by 1", leaving a ~2/3" cushion. Now, all set ups are a little different so the only way to know what works for your application is to measure, but with a 16.9" collapsed lengths, it's pretty safe to say you'd have to modify your bumps in one way or another.

I hope that all makes sense.

I gotcha, now do you think it would be worth the relocation for the 11.6 inch shock? Or should I not bother? I would probably just go up to the 14 inch shock if I had to relocate anyways.

No, definitely not. Also, do you plan on wheeling your truck at all? Should've asked that already

Yes, most of my buddies have jeeps so we usually go to trails and parks when we are all free.
