Ok, I’ve searched the manual, the ‘net, YouTube and this forum to find out whether it’s normal for the rear seatbelt warning to light up on the instrument cluster and for a chime to sound off every time I start the truck. No rear seat passengers. No luck searching. The chime stops after 5 rings and the light goes out at 10 mph. Is this normal? Can it be turned off? I have found some YouTube videos showing how to turn it off on other Toyota models, but not for the Tacoma. Any ideas? Thanks.

Any weight in the backseat? Most cars only have occupant sensors in the front but these new gens might be different

That seems to be a new thing in cars that have gotten a refresh in the 2020s. We have it in our hatchback, and no there's no way to turn it off.

It's basically telling you to verify that your nosepicking tax deductions are all buckled up. I think the engineers do it that way because if they had installed a weight sensor in the rear like they do the front passenger, it'll alarm at every suitcase and Costco run.

Customization details of the truck are at the end of the owners manual.

Thanks, I have the manual with me and have looked at that section. Nothing there regarding the rear seatbelt warning/reminder.

You can turn off the reminder in the menu on the gauge cluster.

It's page 607 in the iForce Max Owners Manual. As the other gentlemen indicated, it can be turned off in the multi informational display.

Thanks everyone. I think there’s some confusion. I understand that the rear seat reminder can be deactivated from within the multi i formational display. There are even YouTube videos showing that process. However, I’m asking about the rear seatbelt warning chime and warning light within the gauge cluster. I think Rock Lobster and wastingTime34 are correct and it cannot be turned off. I’ll check with the dealer though.

I think every vehicle I’ve ever driven has done a few chimes of the seatbelt reminder as soon as the vehicle starts. If the drivers seat is buckled when the vehicle is started it doesn’t occur.
As for the icons that disappear after a while, normal for newer Toyotas. Even with nothing in the back seat.
