Removing the rear seats looks easy but I'm wondering about the sensors.

Do I need to disconnect battery first?

Will removing seats and disconnecting sensors throw a safety code?

Don’t think the rear seats have sensors …

I took out the 60% on the drivers side to make room for my work tools. Only 2 bolts and shes out. No sensors.

Thanks much, and to confirm, this is a 2024, correct? They have a redesigned seat since the earlier versions. The seat part pulls up rather than folds forward. I look forward to getting them out of there and building a platform.

Well, somehow mine senses if there are passengers in the rear seat so I figured they had to have sensors.

I believe–but don't know for sure–it's based on the order of when the rear doors are opened. Perhaps someone will chime in.

Yes, mine is a 2024. Just got it a couple weeks ago. Taking out the 60% rear was first mod. Maybe it senses when the seat belts are buckeled, just a guess.

    i really appreciate these responses!

weird thing is i get an indicator of rear seat passengers even though the seat belts aren't fastened and i haven't opened the rear doors.
there are light items on the seat so I'll experiment tomorrow and see if removing them makes a difference.
at any rate, it's good to hear that the 60% seat was removed on a 24 without issue. I'll probably try tomorrow.
    thanks again!

I have a 3rd Gen but my wife drives a 2024 RAV4 and it gave me the rear seat warning (Confirmed no sensors. I have ripped out the rear bench for seat cover install and sound deadening). There is however a setting hidden in the cluster menu where I was able to turn it off. Not sure if it’s the same but worth a shot.

I had no problem getting the seats out, really simple effective design as Toyota can often be counted on. As mentioned, there were no wires attached and all I did was turn off the rear seat indicator in the settings. So, no problem there.

But now, the OCD in me really wonders how the ECU senses that there are rear passengers or weight in the rear seat? Mine even sensed a single towel back there! My wife thought maybe there was a sensor in the frame that the rear seat rests on and I thought that was a good idea but it would have to be incredibly sensitive to alert for a towel! I did search and didn't find anything obvious in the frame.

The idea above that it's based on doors opening seems like a reasonable possibility.

    Interesting!
