On the first stop sure, if the road, traction and weight remain constant but a few more times and the fade will be the same.

Ok. Be nice to actually see it though, not showing it is questionable.

Balls. I'm taking notes here because I'm going to forget this.

So you're saying I should trade in my 2nd Gen for a 3rd Gen if I'm concerned with safety and overall satisfaction.

Disc brakes have better fade resistance than drum brakes. Doing a conversion from drums to discs is more or less equivalent to increasing the size of the brakes. It’s not going to make you stop any faster, but it will keep you stopping when doing so repeatedly.

If you’re getting rear brake fade before front brake fade, an upgrade to rear discs makes sense. If you’re getting front fade before rear, a larger front setup makes sense. If both are fading at about the same time a larger front setup and a conversion to rear discs makes sense.

If you’re not getting brake fade, all things being equal, changing from drums to discs will not change your braking system effectiveness at all. In that case the best way to improve your braking is to get better tires.

If you just want a different pedal feel, that can be accomplished in a lot of ways. If you just want the look of rear discs, that’s cool too.

There’s more than one way to skin a cat.

I'd like to add to yours, that upkeep or properly maintained drums and disks, need to be the basis of comparisons. From a mere visual inspection, it is much harder to determine wear characteristics of drum material than disk material. That being realized, there have been many members to proclaim how great their drums have lasted 100k+ and I specifically remember another saying 200k, without ever needing replacement.

Should those friction components be working properly, then the material should wear out under normal conditions , much faster than that. If they are not, and are like "new" then adjustment is needed on the drums because they simply are not doing their intended purpose.

I will also make a small addition. On tw there were claims that if you upgrade the rear drums to disks you'll spin out every time you breathe on the brake pedal. I'm surprised I'm still alive with my other cars and trucks having rear disks.

Absolutely, though even for disc brakes, I have seen quite a few where there is significant corrosion or even pad/slider/other seizing that causes issues and is left unrepaired for years, especially on the rear of vehicles where it isn't as noticed.

In regard to questions related to bias and bias adjustment, there is often no need to adjust bias on vehicles after a conversion from drums to discs, though that is of course not always the case. When converting the rear brakes on my Yaris from drums to discs, I did a quick calculation on the difference in braking torque between the two and found it to be less than 3%.
