As the title says, looking for the rear differential crush sleeve torque specs.
    Vehicle is a 02 Tacoma 3.4L v6 Manual W/ the factory E-locker.
Also if anyone has a blown up picture/break-down of the rear differential that'd be a huge help!
    Thanks.

    Check out Zuks website http://www.gearinstalls.com/

    Lots of good photos.

    For instance: http://www.gearinstalls.com/Joe02DCTaco.htm

That has just about everything you need^^

The pinion torque spec is very high at 145ft/lbs. Without good bracing/right tools its hard to get this set obviously as the pinion spins.

Thanks just what i was looking for!
    I've done a ford 8.8 Rear-end but i haven't done anything with an E-locker.
Any thing specific i should be careful about?
    Thanks.

I've only done the non e locker rear toyota diff. Which is a much bigger PITA compared to the elocker.

All i can say is toyota diffs are VERY unforgiving. Make sure you get good measurements and a good setting on the gears. Or they will blow up later.

Well, i'm only replacing the Pinion bearing so hopefully everything should be set to spec from the factory. I'll make sure to double check everything while i have it on the bench though.

Hopefully it won't effect your backlash too much then and you should be okay. Personally, if you're going that far, might as well redo all the bearings and upgrade to a solid pinion spacer.

To much backlash right now is why i'm going about replacing it. I'm hoping the band-aid will hold for a little bit longer till i Re-gear later down the road.

Unless i'm going about this wrong in trying to eliminate the excessive amount of backlash i have.
    Thanks!

if you have too much back lash don't change the pinion. Changing the pinion changes how deep it sits in the gear, it'll effect the BL as well but if its just your BL just change the ring gear. Works similar on the elocker as a ford and you just need to crank it a bit to tighten it up.

If the pinion preload is loose then yes change the crush sleeve as those can wear out over time.

If i remember right anytime you pull tension off the crush sleeve they should be replaced as they are a one time deal.

The backlash on the truck is ridiculous, so i'm hoping my Ring and Pinion aren't chewed up.
The only reason i found out about it was because when i coast i hear a loud whining coming from my rear-end.
So somethings off on the coast side.
hope that gives a little back light at what i'm trying to accomplish.
Thanks for the input so far @Blackdawg ! been a lot of useful information.

Yeah crush sleeves are a one time use, but you can also get a solid spacer instead if you think you'll be messing around with it a lot.

You can take the diff apart without removing the pinion though is my point but still move the ring gear to change the BL. That said, the pinion may have to move and as previously stated the crush sleeves can wear out over time.

All the more reason to get a solid pinion spacer now if you are tearing it apart and going to again in the near future to regear.

If it is only a small bit of extra back lash needed the 8" is adjusted with turning adjusters so you don't even have to worry about shimming. Could still produce a good pattern and be really easy :notsure:

Ah, Sorry for the confusion. Like i said I've only done one rear end before and it was a completely different animal.

The only benefit of a solid spacer is its reusable? First I've ever heard of them.

yes reusable and it won't cave and loose preload overtime.

What did you end up doing to fix this? I have the exact same problem and would like to do it myself if its not too complicated. Thank you!

I ended up rebuilding the whole Diff. I used a solid spacer, so i could pull the flange off and not have to worry about the crush sleeve.
Any time you remove the pinion nut you lose the crush sleeve, so keep that in mind when rebuilding.

I purchased the ECGS master kit for both front and rear. Hopefully it comes with a new crush sleeve
