I am about to change the fluid in my transfer case, front and rear diffs. My truck is a 2005 Sr5 4x4. Do I need to add LSD fluid with the gear oil in diffs? I think my truck has an open diff.

The LSD trucks had an LSD sticker in the rear of the differential.
The chances yours is still there is little to none. But it could be?

If in doubt, add the LSD additive. It will not hurt anything.

The 2005-2008 manual had 80w-90 as the recommended fluid.
Most 80w-90 is standard oil with no additives. You can find it in synthetic, but it not as common as 75w-90.

    I'd just pour 75w-90 in a 3.

Suppose a man were to use a gear oil with LSD additive in it, in his open diff.
    What's it going to hurt?

i used redline 75w85 for mine, it had the lsd additive. full synthetic. most synthetic gear oils have it in it. wont hurt a thing if you put it in a open diff. mine is open, and my oil had the additive in it, so, i can attest to that. probably put over 5k on it since i serviced them. no trouble at all.

probably nothing. In an LSD, it still lubricates the gears. And has additive for proper mechanical clutch function.
According to Amsoil website, if you accidentally put LSD oil in something that doesn't call for it, it's fine.
Only obvious downside is probably the cost. LSD oil usually costs more than regular.

Again, I can attest, I used redline full synthetic with lsd additive in mine, works perfectly. All of theirs has the lsd additive. If your worried about it, go to your local parts store and get you Mobil 1 75w90. I believe it has the lsd additive. Roughly $20 a quart depending on the parts store. Dump it in their and call it good

I run Lucas 85W140 in my TRD OR. Simply due to this article from ECGS, its a good read.
