So my truck was backed into last Saturday and I picked it up from the shop on Friday. The first thing I noticed when picking up my truck was the large gap in between the rear quarter panel and the bumper. About 1 3/8".
    IMAG0132_b01ccfefffe5c7d94a149caa8ef97e6d2ffa54f7.jpg
I was told it was correct by the shop and just went with it, maybe my eyes are playing tricks. Then I noticed that the bumper seems too wide for the truck.

    IMAG0134_98d1d968455dfb7d10199b2a76802b51552d676a.jpg
I don't remember the original one sticking out at all.
Also you can see into the bumper from the side of the truck and the rear where the tail lights are.

    IMAG0147_944c6c7df6cc962a8ba2ac39c7025380408b87b3.jpg
Based on the VIN the part number for the bumper is 52151-04907. This number matches that of the one on my estimate/work documents as well as the invoice from Toyota for the replacement bumper.
What could be the issue. There are 6 different bumperes for our trucks according to Toyota. Could it have been mis labeled and sent as the correct one?
Also I went to a Toyota dealer and talked to them they agree something isn't right. Ialso I took pics of other Tacomas the same way I did of mine and they are all perfect.

They must have put on a smaller, identical version of the Tacoma bumper. It happens all the time.

Seriously though, check the FSM for the specs. A lot of people are surprised to find out that not everything on these trucks are lined up perfectly from factory. The offset beds is one that's seen a lot of coverage on here.

Your bumper is probably in spec and just a little off from side to side.

I added a couple pics from farther away.
Do you mean the original bumper was smaller? How do I find a smaller one?
The bumper is centered from side to side perfectly on the bed. Where can I find the FSM?

I went to a dealership and looked at every tacoma there they were all a lot better than mine. The sides of the bumpers are almost flush with the bed sides. And the bigest gap I found was only 1".

Toyota doesn't make multiple bumpers for the Tacoma... that bumper should fit, but it looks like the installer did the job himself so it didn't get lined up properly when he was snugging down the mounts.

I installed my hitch myself and the left end of the bumper rides just a bit "aft" of where it should be, but it's not enough to bother me enough to get back under there and correct it.

I think there's a copy running around over on TTORA somewhere. Maybe customtacos.

I see what you did there :D

It also depends on how hard you were hit and if the hitch mount bent and was replaced(the bumper mounts up to the hitch frame).

The guy I bought my truck from backed into a concrete post at <5mph and it left a huge dent. I took the bumper off only to find out that the hitch frame was bent slightly. I pounded the bumper out and tried to straighten the frame and I'm still left with what you are describing, and what the pics are showing. Mine appears worse than yours but nobody else has noticed it on mine:anonymous:

I would take it back and demand that it be fixed. Not sure if you went through insurance, but if you don't get results from the shop, then let them know as well.

Toyota does infact have 6 different bumpers for the 2011 tacoma. Check three times with three different dealers.
There is only left and right adjustment, no fore and aft on the bumper.

As far as anyone could tell the hitch was not damaged. Also I am kind of a prefectionist when it comes to my truck. And it not being exactly how it was before bugs me.

4 bolts that hold the center piece (provides the platform for the bumper hitch mount) to brackets, 6 bolts attach the brackets to the frame... and I'm not sure how the bumper attaches to the center piece.

There's PLENTY of fore/aft play, and some up/down play with all 10 bolts loosened.
