I noticed toyota and a few other companies made a rear bed step for getting into the bed.,located on the corner below bumper. Anyone have these, and thoughts on products. Just didnt want it to fall out of position while driving.

I have one and love it. Makes getting into the truck much easier. Also, I didn't like the asymmetry of the rear with the exhaust pipe on the right and an open spot on the left. The step visually balances out the rear of the truck (exhaust pipe on the right, step on the left).

I have the bed step since i got my truck.
I know the ladies love it.

It requires a downward and pull motion to drop it, so accidental release is rare. At least i have not heard of any cases of it happening.

I believe AMP Research are the official makers of the OEM bed step.

If you are an off roader on tricker trails, it can limit your departure angle and/or clearance.

    Otherwise it should be fine.

Love mine, it’s got a pretty good spring in there keeping it up, don’t think it would ever unintentionally come down. 6D00301D-7A54-49FD-8728-5038ADB42781.jpg

Having destroyed my knees with 26 years of active duty in the Army, the bed step is a welcome alternative to jumping out of the truck or crawling down over a tire. And, I can say that I've never experienced an unwanted, premature extension.:D:p

Shit I found on CL or EBAY that I could screw on.
I have I guess the toyota one. I use it all the time. Seems sturdy enough for a step, I would not necessarily jump on it. Pics are of before/after treating it with the plastic restorer.

Love mine. I use it to step onto the tailgate, then step onto the Diamondback.

Big thing is, I feel i can do this while using my arms to carry something which is very nice. Need a good breaker bar to get the factory bolts loose for installation.

Does the bed step stick out far enough for easy access with the tailgate down?
I used to scratch my head seeing posts about bed steps, wondering why folks don’t just use the one built on to the bumper like I do. Then I got a Tonneau cover, you have to drop the tailgate to open it. With the cover flipped up and tailgate down my old knees and that hard tailgate don’t mix, after a few times I thought I need a bed step lol. Could put the tailgate back up I guess. They sure are pricey though.

Yes, the bed step is designed to be used when the tailgate is down. Step on the bed step first and then the step on to the tailgate to get in to the truck bed.

I put one on mine. No issues. Real solid. Use it with the tailgate down mostly instead of having to jump (lifted the truck). I bought it from Toyota online. The AMP Research one looks identical. Not sure if they are the ones making it for Toyota or not though.

    New,
I have seen used steps go as low as $100.
