Hey , looking at this on the net. Seems like it has a bit of potential to bring back..not sure what exactly was the damages on the rear axle but it was hit from the side causing that. these are the best pictures.. what are your thoughts?

Rear axle will break away from the leafs before it really bends like that. But that truck 100% has frame damage and should be treated as a parts truck.

Axle probably not bent. Likely the axle slipped from the leaf spring centering pin. The shackle hanger on the frame may be bent as well. The shackle hangers are replaceable either with OEM parts or with upgraded ones from Archive or BAMF.

The lights on the dash are probably from a wheel speed sensor wire broken when the axle got dislocated.

The insurance deemed it a total loss for a reason; the repairs needed to make it roadworthy are nearing, or maybe even more, than it’s worth.

Your bigger issue the entire fucked cab. That thing is certainly totaled. But for 5k it may make a good farm truck.

That would be the least of my worries. 2 doors, fender and a bed side and the body is good.
Its that frame and axle that are the issue.

If you have to ask? You're already in over your head.

Not trying to be a dick. Seriously, if you actually had the abilities/skills to repair that thing...you wouldn't be asking random strangers on the internet for their opinion on how bad it is.

And we can't tell any more from here than you can!

Even if you can fix it for a good price it will have a salvage title making it 50-75% of retail. And many lenders will not finance salvage, many insurers won't insure. All those things making a tough resell, or maybe even ownership.

    Look before you leap.

Depends on what you want to bring it back for? Project truck to tinker on over the weekend. Sounds fun! Just know like others mentioned you’ll have a heck of a time re-selling if you ever want to, unless it’s a forever truck. Bring it back for an off-roading truck that’s gonna get cut and suspension replaced (including shackle hangers and leaf springs) and bashed anyways, that’s the only reason I would buy a salvaged truck….

In case this point is worth making ... bent frame and truck body damage probably allowed you to complain to us about the repair cost. Happy that this conversation is even occurring instead of a hospital visit.

^OP was not the driver. Judging by his other thread, he's just looking for a cheap project truck to fix.

yeah that frame is gonna be F'ed, to twist the axle like that right off there's no way the frame isn't at least tweaked.

I once bought an 06 tundra from the insurance company that got smoked in an accident like the op's, bending the axle, and breaking the leafs from the axle housing. We found the housing, and rest of the rear differential ok. Some new leaf's, and an axle was all that was needed, along with some major body work.

There's probably a stain or two on the driver's seat.

This thing would make a hell of a wheeling rig, pull the bed, replace the rear axle with a larger one, add rock sliders, new suspension, convert the ear frame to coilovers, or some sort of long travel suspension. Cut the back frame off behind the wheels, full tube cage with a small flat bed, it'll be MINT!!!

this is it. If the autobody guys that have the tools, talent, and parts hookup don't want it,, neither does anyone else.

Small lift, slightly oversized tires, well...
Really hard to be sure of anything off those pictures, pretty much a WAG.

Not sure where some are positive there's frame damage. I see 2 doors and 2 fenders. Body lines look OK to me, not seeing anything not lining up well. Axle was knocked off of the alignment pins. Axle housing probably damaged as with right axle and likely yoke to the driveshaft. Driveshaft is probably bent. Springs and shocks are probably fuskered. Brake lines and ABS sensor wiring probably torn up. And like previously mentioned, it wouldn't surprise me if the transfer case or transmission are damaged.

Salvage title can be problematic. Some states allow for re-titling as rebuilt if you can pass an inspection afterwards. State DOT website may give specific requirements and procedures. Going into that without understanding what you're getting into could get expensive and frustrating.
