Looking to re-gear my 2016 tacoma, currently live in southern California, northern San Diego area and need a dependable shop since I am new to the area. Any recommendations, willing to drive an hour if needed.

isn’t this the shop that had the group buy on TW and people were having issues? There’s a thread on here all about it.

I had my 4.88s done at 4wp in Temecula. Bit pricey but they did a great job. The tech who installed it was a gear specialist with 25+ years of experience.

I’m only speaking from my own experience with a regear to 5.29 Revolutions. Put over 5k miles since with no issues whatsoever. I followed what they told me to the T, you have to change your gear oil after 500 miles, and you have to stop for half an hour each time you drive somewhere prior to changing it. I have no affiliations with their shop but I know people that have gone to them with no issues either.

Yea I did too. They're a chain so you'll have some good and some bad, just like everything else. With gears it all boils down the tech doing the work. I talked to three different shops and I looked for the most experienced knowledgeable one out there. In my case, it was 4wp at that location. My preference would have been for ECGS to do the install themselves.

Some excerpts from issues. If 20 people aren’t having issues, but say 5 are, all the positive reviews don’t negate people having fucked up transmissions. One issue, is one too many.

LS1-T56 swap, Z06 ported heads, cam, Titanium valves, Kevlar clutch. Now building a forged stroker (383) and all the ponies! Old setup was rod-knockin on heaven's door...
I do tons of swaps, I can do the actual re-gear as well but hate doing the fronts with the clamshell setup. The way I normally have my customers do it is get the diffs Pre-assembled/built by ECGS and then I can swap them in a day and off ya go! I've never seen any fail and I have done at least 100 setups this way.. Just an option to think about.
    Im in Vista BTW
