Nothing structural IMO. They are great quality. I had a roofnest prior and it was garbage, literally. Had holes in it and came full of aluminum shavings. They are just a distributor of cheap chinesium trash. iKamper actually makes theirs, in Korea I think, and they are awesome. One thing to watch for is that the mattress isn't super plush. I find it to be fine, even as a fat side sleeper, but some people howl about it. It's Korean style and they don't sleep on pillow top beds like we do here in The States. If you can, go to an outdoor shop that has some RTTs on display. Go feel the Roofnests and then go put your hands on the 3.0 iKamper. The quality difference is definitely noticeable. It makes the steep price a little easier to swallow.

This thread is making me want to hurry up and get my bed rack repainted and assembled so I can get my tent and go camping. It's been too long!

i am a side sleeper and the mattress in the 3.0 is not for me. I can only make it about 2 nights with the mattress i took advantage of the recent sale they had and ordered the inflatable mattress. You can find one one Amazon the will work which was the way i was going to go until the sale happened. Now if they would only get them in i would be a lot happier! Funny thing is you can buy the 2.0 and get the 3.0 upgrade kit for cheaper than a 3.0 lol. You just lose the upgraded latches and locks.

@Redsquirrel Thanks for all this info. I was looking at getting the ikamper 3.0 mini as well. However, I want to know the maximum distance between the front and back cross bars. I've picked up the victory 4x4 overland bedrack and the distance between the front crossbar and back crossbar is roughly 52 inches. Is that distance too long for the length of the iKamper mini's rails to fit on? I appreciate your help.

    Thanks!

If I have time at work tomorrow I'll take a tape out and get measurements and pics of mine. I just mounted it up in the last month, and I think you'd be okay. I can't sweat to it, though.

Awesome, I totally appreciate that! Mostly interested in the length of the rails on the 3.0 mini since they are slightly shorter than the tent base itself (from what i've seen).

In a couple hours, if work isn't crazy I'll see if I can get out there. You are correct that they are a bit shorter than the base, and the clamps take a bit of space at each end as well, but I'd be surprised if they can't run on any bed rack that fits a double cab Taco.

I see y'all have had quite the back and forth already, but I was wondering...how tall is your RCI rack? I'm looking to have something slightly shorter than that so the top of an iKamper mini 3.0 would sit flush with the roof. Also, any suggestions for this? I'm looking at the UpTop Tacoma TRUSS Bed Rack (short/6").

Ok, so today was nuts. My apologies for the delays.

Here's the length of the rails for the iKamper Skycamp Mini 3.0 (just under 53 inches" and then a shot of the bracket shoved all the way to the end. With the end cap and the bracket you lose about 3 inches per end, so knock 6 inches off the full rail.

For @Vettes 'n Tacos here is the height of my @CaliRaisedLed rack and how it sits. The front of the tent is just below or right at the roofline, and the rear of the tent sticks up a bit more. I've seen no MPG change in the time I've had it installed. One thing to note is you can't use the front window's awning rods with it mounted this low because the would hit the cab of the truck. This is why the drawstring window feature on the 3.0 was a must have for me.

@50Buck Thanks so much for the info and photos! I'm much less scared about how a mid-height rack would fit.

Yeah, mine is the mid height and it's perfect. It was perfect on the Tundra too. Lol

You still liking the rack and RTT? I have a '23 Tacoma TRD Off Road with a manual tranny on order with expected delivery next month. Looking to make this my hunting truck/basecamp to take from the Fort Worth, TX area to Kansas, Missouri, and Arkansas in the fall/winter. I'm still in the research phase regarding gear, so I'd love to hear your RTT/rack tips/pros/cons/etc.

I got it for my Tundra, and loved it. Only spent a few nights, but it's perfect for what I wanted. There are lots of pros and cons out there that guided my decision, but others may not feel the same. The speed of set up and tear down are what push me into a hardshell over a soft. I'm lazy and I want to relax, and the soft ones have wonky covers and straps and just look frustrating. I'll take the easy one, please. :D The only valid downside I ever saw for a RTT is that you have to put the tent away if you want to move the truck or take it on a trail. Non issue for me because I had a road legal side by side when I bought it, and now have a motorcycle. Those can do the driving while my truck and tent act as base camp.

If you really want an experienced user, I'd ask @Squatting Pigeon because he's ran one longer than me, and he has a soft tent on his Tundra.

Okay, so since it wasn't listed on their website, I contacted iKamper support. Here are the official rail dimensions and maximum crossbar distances for anyone interested in the iKamper Skycamp Mini 3.0. The maximum distance outer edge to outer edge for the crossbars is 39". For my overland bedrack by Victory 4x4, I'm simply going to get 4 extra cross bars off sherpa. They are great and cheap and you can select your crossbar length. They are out of black in the 50" right now though, so I just went with the adonized silver since it'll be on my roof rack up top and not visible generally speaking anyways (especially with the RTT on there). Link is here. https://sherpaec.com/products/additional-crossbar

Thank you so much for these pics and measurements! Looks like you could get away with 48" even though the official word is 39". I just installed the victory overland bedrack today to go over my softopper. I'll post some pics when I get some daylight. Now, waiting for a deal on a skycamp mini. I'm in Houston but can save $200 shipping if I buy from one of the dealers in San Antonio.

@Vettes 'n Tacos i love my caliraised rack. It’s incredibly sturdy, and for me, the mod height is perfect. I’ve had this rack for a little over 4 years now and haven’t had any issues with it. Let me know if you end up wanting to go this route, because I have a coupon code I can share if caliraised isn’t running a sale when you go to buy

48" would be too long between the two. On either end you've got at least 3 inches for the clamps. With the curve of the clamps I'd expect to lose a little more than that 6 inches to be able to drop straight down. 39" might be conservative, but I don't think it'd be much more than 40".

 He was asking more about the RTT experience. I know you've used yours a bunch.

The rack being the best out there is just a bonus! :fistbump:

I like my tent a lot too, but wish it would set up a bit faster. That’s really my only complaint, but that’s all soft shells

I agree. It's a cost to benefit analysis that everyone has to run. Fast setup of a hardshell is expensive, but come with a little less noise in the wind if positioned correctly. On the flipside, you can save a lot of money if you don't mind spending the time to setup a soft top.

I'm lazy and spent more for easy mode. :D
