I just got an ikamper Skycamp 3.0 mini RTT. Will the regular mounting brackets that come with it work with the 12" RCI bed rack? Excited to get everything together and get out there!

I don't know about the RCI rack, but mine mounted up to my CaliRaisedLED rack no problem. What are the crossmembers of the RCI rack like? On the CRLED they are aluminum extrusions, and the mounts grip it really well.

What are the dimensions underneath the base of and between the mounting holes? (the website only gives the dimensions of the base)

I was contemplating replacing my cab mounted soft top RTT and putting one flat on top of my cab mounted Prinsu.

Not sure exactly who you're asking without a quoted message or a tag. I'm guessing you are asking for dimensions of the iKamper Skycamp Mini 3.0? They have all the info on their website here https://ikamper.com/products/skycamp-3-0-mini but here's the diagram for dimensions as well.

EDIT: Good grief is my brain dumb on no sleep. I totally misread your question.

Unfortunately, when I saw the website before it only gives the main dimensions, has anyone ever mounted one to a Prinsu rack and can you do it flat on top without additional bars? I didn’t want to make it any higher than necessary.

OP -sorry to add to your thread, your setup will look nice!

This video shows the mounting and might answer your question. I have it set to start just as they are setting it on the roof, and he goes into the mounts right after. If you look you can see the tent has two rails that run front to back. The mounting hardware slides into these rails. It can go on any crossbar as long as it spans the width of the tent because you can move the mounts forward and backward the full length of the tent.

That helps- looks easy for a bed rack mount. One more question, can you see the other end of the mounting bolts holding those channel bars to the floor inside the tent? Just curious if they’re through holes or if there’s an internal frame they mounted those channels to.

on my SB soft top, I actually drilled through the floor and put bolts up from each of the channels of the Prinsu rack that mounted it flat to the rack and worked out really well, but I’m worried that this might have a different set up inside the floor of the iKamper tent. I’d really like to make one of those work out for my set up, they’re nice looking and look well-built.

My tent is in storage 300 miles away at the moment, and I honestly could not remember if they were exposed or not. Some internet digging and I found this short. You can see the mounts inside, but they are recessed.

Good find, that’s exactly like my SB was. I just used short bolts with their heads slid into the Prinsu bar going up through the floor. They were short enough that I could attach a T nut from the top of the floor onto them, which made it recessed as well.

Can anyone get the distance between the front bar holes and rear bar holes? It would be awesome if I could just replace those with Prinsu bars…

Also how’s the top of those shells, would they be flat enough for a glue on flexible solar panel?

Is there reason to remove the mounting rails on the bottom rather than just using as designed? It's only about an inch difference in height.

Well, having it flush would make it lower and more streamlined, also, it has more surface area resting on a mounted surface rather than being perched on those bars.

You might run into issues deploying the fold out portion if you flush mount it. That floor needs to have a little flex and sometimes a bit of downward deflectin for the ladder. You may actually bend/damage the fold out portion when climbing up the ladder if it's resting on the rack. Personally, I'd mount it as designed.

That’s a good point, the way the SB is designed the hinge is high and folds out away from the edge of the roof rack. I’ll have to check that out, thanks for your input. I really appreciate it!

oh, what about the roof of the shell, can one stick a flexible solar panel to it or does it have to be a ridged one mounted up above it?

The closure cables also need clearance. If the rack you have fits 100% inside the footprint of the closed tent you might be ok, but if it's out to the edges or larger than the tent's foorprint you may bind on the lids hinge covers when open and the closure cables. Both are below the floor level.

The circles are the points you'd need to watch for, and if you look at the rack it is wide enough it would interfere if the tent was flush. The fold out floor compresses downward when you climb in because the top section of the ladder is squishy like a suspension, so if the hinge is over the rack you would be putting all that force across the edge of the rack into that fold out floor section. I'm a fat guy so I am 90% sure I'd bend/crease that.

    upload_2023-6-17_10-40-41.png

The shell is all plastic/fiberglass/abs. I wouldn't drill anything into it for fear of it cracking. A stick on would work if you get the smooth finish, but the rocky black will be more durable.

Thank you for your time posting this, it’s a very useful information! Yeah, it looks like I’ll have to mount it the way they designed it, that would be OK. It’s funny, I was just out on a dog walk and noticed my neighbor down the street has a soft sided version of the iKamper - it’s not what I would want but it looks like it would’ve worked on my truck as well. The hard shell won’t mount the way mounted mine, but I can work with it.

There are several used 3.0 versions for sale on CL, I guess some people decided after trying them out once or twice that they weren’t for them, but the prices are good. So is there anything I should look out for structurally speaking that I might miss if buying a used one?
