I washed my wife's 2023 Rav today that was purchased new last October and noticed tiny rust spots in in the paint in a variety of places. Even on the plastic on the rear tailgate! It was hard to capture a decent photo. Any ideas? This is on a plastic part so it's not from metal underneath.

Looks like rail dust, an iron remover or clay bar will take it out.

    What is rail dust?
If you notice there are many little specks in the pic that have not come through yet. These look like they are coming out of the paint.

Google probably has a better definition than I do but it’s metallic material that lands on the paint and then rusts. It’s sitting on your clear coat, it’s not your paint that is the issue. White vehicles show this way more than other colors. Spray on some iron remover and it will melt away. Kind of fun to watch it work.

My wife has an appointment at the dealership very soon. Will have to see what they say.

As you can read. Apparent blah blah blah. As mentioned previously in this thread, most likely a class action suit the only way to resolve the issue. The paint that isn't flaking away is as good as the day it came off the showroom. It's a defect from the manufacturer plain and simple.

Toyota paint has its issues, won’t argue that, but from what I see in the photos and write up saying it’s over plastic it really seems like outside metallic material sitting on the paint. Any white vehicle will be more proned to showing this. Not sure if the dealer will do much but this should be an easy fix.

Wrong place to post my response. To which I must apologize. My paint issues are not of apparent iron deposits coming forth from the paint. Didn’t search far enough into the matter. Again my apologies to this thread.

All good, I don’t expect the dealer to help much so I’m sure the response will be similar to the template you provided. Guessing this will go down as normal wear and tear. Hope I’m wrong but I guess we’ll see.

Metal from your brakes, road debris etc flies up and embeds itself in your paint then rusts. As others have said buy iron x or similar. Spray it on and then wash your vehicle and it should come off.
