I thought I would ask here because I drive the Tacoma TRD Off Road 2021.
My Wife has a new Rav4 LE Hybrid and it has a button by the Shifter that says Trail.
The Rav4 is an AWD. I am curious what the Trail button controls mechanically. Is there any comparison to anything on the TRD OR Tacoma?
    Thanks

    Maybe @Bishop84 will know.

The Tacoma has no equivalent. I have a RAV 4 and I near as I can tell it modifies the traction control to make it less likely to cut engine power when a wheel is slipping. This would allow more power to the ground but more stress on the drivetrain.

It's similar to the X-Mode subaru has. The hybrid trail mode is simulated offroad and basically tries to keep wheel spin down using ABS.

It typically helps with tricky sections but its nothing special. It can also behave like down hill assist.

The rav4 trail/offroad/limited gas only models actually have special drive train called torque vectoring. Hybrid does not.

Interestingly in the winter, I have found the best mode in snow and ice is the regular eco mode. The lowered throttle response in eco mode does a good job keeping wheel spin to a minimum.

I haaaaaaaaate ECO mode but in the dead of winter I get it.

The 13-18 gen suffered from converter issues, and the early shifting of eco mode actually increased the likelihood that the converter failure would happen.

Toyota let us know that mud/dirt is the best for having fun in snow and allows the most wheel spin.

I agree on hating eco mode. The only time I use it is on ice. I actually get better gas mileage in normal or sport mode than eco mode. I have the Hybrid so no shifting in mine. I bet eco mode in the non hybrid is appalling.

The mud/dirt mode would be nice. I wish the Hybrids had it.

Man, I remember my 2000 AWD CRV didn't have any traction control bullshit. in a snow storm, you hit the gas and you were gone, while looking back at people still trying to get traction. ABS was all it had.

That and winter tires, and that thing was unstoppable....
