Raptor Takeoffs anyone?? (A) is it reasonable to consider??? Check out these photos of shocks!

Discussion in 'Suspension' started by EngineerTECtreeService, Jan 28, 2020.

?

Would you take half price raptor takeoffs if they had to keep their Raptor Marketing print?

  1. I would put em on a F150 base and drive that thing off of a cliff!

  2. I would rock them and dream to be a raptor as I sprint my tacoma through KING OF THE HAMMERS!~~~

I have been searching for the best mid-travel setup for the 3rd gen Tacoma. I read a post where someone suspension minded recommended that raptor take-offs could be just what im looking for??? Wait What?!!! (A) is this reasonably possible with the typical mods and relocation mounts?
    (B) Who here would take a dope setup for less than cost even if it said Raptor on the side?
    (C) Would this setup be a great mid-travel setup that would perform with the best of mid-travel selections???
    (D) Obviously these are some pictures of different raptor take-off options, if this is to be seriously considered I'd like input regarding what challenges might arise from all the main selections one might choose from. "more obviously the newer orange and silver ones are deff the top choice" Hit me up with your anti-raptor angst and whatever, whatheres, Whosayers, mustith.

I've been slowly working on this swap. It likely has the potential to embarrass some fairly expensive and involved set ups for a fraction of the price. If you decide you want to try some 18-19 3.0 blue Shocks, drop me a note, I have a couple of pallets full.

Realistically it won't work without a lot of fab work. All new brackets for shocks and coilovers since raptor shocks are significantly longer and bigger dia.

Also after owning raptors and tacomas. You can build a mid travel kit that will out preform raptor parts for a fraction of the price. I was extremely unimpressed with the ride of my raptor

I never BS unless I'm messing around. 27 sets of rear, not sure on the front. Pics asap. They are new take offs from the Roush Raptor builds.

The rear swap won't be different from any other 12" swap, except for the large chunk of money one won't have to spend on rear shocks.

The front swap will potentially require reworking the the shock... much more involved.

Thanks for the information it's nice to hear that. I still have stock OR suspension on my 18 TRD MT and it's the smoothest thing I've ever driven to date over bumps aside from my old specialized DH mtn bike! To clear up this thread are you saying massive fab for fronts and rears? Sounds like the rears will just fit in there with minimal fab?? Correct me if I'm incorrect.

I have been drooling over the orange ones that are first pictured. Would you happen to have those on hand?

The factory raptor suspension is about as special as the factory trd pro setup. Would rather just buy race series shocks from fox.

the orange/grey shocks are the aftermarket upgrades Fox offers.

The OE ones that come on a factory Rator are an Internal Bypass. They are much more progressive than your standard smooth body shock.

Op, in theory, yes. You could do a rear shock relocation and use Raptor take off shocks. The valving would be way off but it could work. The fronts wouldn’t be worth the effort to make fit and work. Geometry between the two would be vastly different

Are you people trying to put Raptor shit in Tacoma’s, or F150’s?

The 2nd gen 18 - 19 Shocks contain a lot more ability than one might expect. They have a 3.0" body/2.5" piston, multiple bypass zones, and base valves (nice upgrade right there alone). They also have extra seals in certain locations, and protection for the shock shaft. They can be rebuilt and revalved just like any other Fox. The rear units are roughly 31" extended, and 19" collapsed, which of course gives a clean 12" stroke in a relatively compact package.

new mounts for the rear, probably some clearance issues as well.

also keep in mind, the new orange OE shocks on raptor, has a feature called live valve terrain control. Which adjusts the dampening with magnets, so I couldn’t even begin to fathom how that’s going to work in a swap. My thoughts are way to much of a headache to fit.
In my opinion if you want some beef ass shocks.
    these will do nicely

Life Valve is a system that controls fluid flow at the reservoir depending on the inputs of a variety of sensors. Steering, throttle/brake, gyroscope, etc. Not magnetic.

You would need this system and encompassing sensors to make it work.

Live valve is a more advanced version of Ohlins older CES system. Yamaha had the CES system on the Apex Snowmobile when it debuted in 2006. It had the same setup, a solenoid mounted to the compression adjuster, but it was simply to adjust it via a button... it wasn't always adjusting for conditions... essentially it is what Fox iQS is. After the wire to solenoid broke enough times, we found that Ohlins offered a manual conversion for it. Agree though, most folks, the work required would be too much.

OEM take off shocks in aftermarket boxes. Roush pulled the brand new stockers and installed the Fox Shox pictured in photos one and two in the first post.
