Rapid Topper - Another company to avoid

Wanted to share my experience with this company and hopefully save others some headache. I've talked to a couple other people who have echoed my experience and concerns with this company.

I like many others first saw this company (https://rapidtopper.com/ https://www.instagram.com/rapidtopper ) back in the spring of 2023 and it appeared to be a good solution to a problem faced by many with a camper. At the time I had a AT Overland habit, but given the number of trips per year I was able to take, I was looking for a solution to be able to remove this and reinstall it when I was going on a trip.

Preorders were slated to go live June 1, 2023 but the day before, they were delayed. They were pushed back to the end of June. Once they opened up, I placed my order (paid in full up front) with an expected ship date of August 2023.

After some waiting, August came and went with zero communication from the company.

I gave it a little time and followed up in September as I had heard nothing. There were a few vague social media posts about delays but that was the extent of communication from the company.

The reply I received stated that the last of the parts would be completed by the weekend and they would keep me posted on progress.

A week later, I heard nothing and had received no shipment confirmation.

At this point, I was really starting to get the feeling this company was heading in the direction of many other companies in the off road industry of the last couple years. I emailed again and asked to cancel my order. I received no response.

I gave it a couple weeks and followed up again.
Once again, I received no response.

At this point, I knew something was up. Previously, I was getting a response in a day or two and now had gone 3+ weeks with no response to multiple messages. At this point we were into October and the company had seemingly disappeared and no product had arrived.

I decided it was time to file a dispute as I had lost confidence I was actually going to receive the product and by now we were already 2 months past when it was expected to ship and 4 months since the preorder.

For anyone who has ever filed a dispute, it's a long process and a lot of waiting.
The vendor has somewhere between 30 and 60 days to respond
This was not a surprise, but they waited until nearly the last day to respond with "product was shipped". That was the entirety of their response.
spoiler alert - it wasn't. They provided no tracking or proof to support this claim.

At this point, I collected all my documentation, communication and social media posts from Rapid topper stating delays and various posts about manufacturing to support my claim this product wasn't even finished so there was no way this product could have shipped.

After all that, the dispute was resolved in my favor and I finally had my money back for good.

To this day, the product still has not been finished and there are others currently trying to get their money back from this company.

At this point, I think I'm done pre-ordering any new products as there seems to be way too many new companies out there that can't seem to actually bring a product to production.

Oh wow... They asked you to pay full price for a pre-order? Holy moly. We've been doing "reservations" for parts on the new Tundra, but we've only asked for $5 because we have no idea when we'll finish the parts. Then a full on "pre-order" at full price once all testing has been done and we have a solid timeline on actual release.

Yup. Preorders were (and still are) the full $1000. I didn’t really mind cuz it was only 6 weeks until it was supposed to ship… but that never happened.

For anyone that is holding out or still waiting, shipments have started. Mine arrived today. Def don’t like the wait but have waited much longer for armor and shocks. My trucks in the shop but so far they seem well put together.

Just went through an even worse experience ordering an axle. Communication was horrible. This one def didn’t take off like we all or seems the vendor did but I’m excited to be able to remove my camper solo. For that reason alone I have been still waiting. This post def had me worried but glad I did not cave.

Anyone have any updates on this company? Site still says they are backordered and I can't find any way to get in touch with them to ask about a restock date.

I got mine in January. I was ordered #1 to get a sense of timing. I know he has had issues early on with some of the vendors doing some billet parts.

I have not set it up yet, but I have all the parts ready to do it. Anyone who is getting or ordering should make sure to measure the length of the conduit.

I usually ping him on IG. Right now I would ready to wait but just a note that when I got mine and was the first order.

I pinged him last month on IG and he was responding.

Great, thank you. Figured there was some sort of issue with parts being delayed but also curious if they still even exist. Have a camper coming in August so am hoping I can get a RT lift/stand by then.

If you decide to unload yours I'd be interested

yah will post up when I get around to it. have not had time to dig into the bed stuff I am planning to do. He responded last month. I don't think its the main source of income for the guy who started it so may have some spotty responses. They were at More expo in April from what I heard or he told me.

I was order #8 and never got mine.

I had constant contact with the owner, but now he won’t respond.

Yup exactly what happened to me. They were very responsive prior to presale on fitment questions and shortly after that they just disappeared. Glad I had mine on a credit card so I didn’t get screwed.
