There was a ladder in middle of freeway and ran over it with my left tires driving 75 miles. Didn’t make any horrible noise just truck went up and down quickly. Truck drives fine didn’t see any noticeable damage underneath. Should I still take it to dealer to make sure nothing happened or am I just overthinking?

I ran over a ladder in my Ranger years ago. Definitely was pissed about it but didn’t notice any adverse effects from doing so. If everything seems fine I personally wouldn’t bother taking it in, but nothing wrong with doing so if you feel so inclined.

    Maybe.

You can self examine tires for damage.

An alignment might not be a bad idea

I would, [or check it myself VERY carefully] if there is damage, having it checked out is needed if there is enough damage to claim on your insurance.

My old boss got about 16 K into his Dodge 3/4 diesel when he ran over a big old cement block in the highway after it was dark. It took months to get all the damage figured out because it caught the transmission wiring and did damage outside the housing and inside it. Whammied his axle, undercarriage and generally caused mayhem under the truck. [and it was even lifted]

Try riding a motorcycle on the freeway eye opening experience for what’s laying around.

    4 run, 2 don't
Expect to pay to get it looked at

A dealership is not the place you go for the possibility of damage due to outside factors but if you do take it, hopefully a competent person will point out any damage (if any) versus a basic lube tech

At that point, if there was significant damage, you should file a comprehensive claim via insurance

Crawl up underneath and have one more good look around. If everything looks okay, and it drives okay, then it's probably okay. But then again, what the hell do I know!

Either way, won't hurt to get your truck checked out and make sure nothing was damaged.

If the steering wheel is still straight ahead your alignment is probably ok but at least inspect the tires for any cuts or sidewall damage. Watch your tire wear for any changes.

Did u hear any noise like it hitting the truck . If not more than likely it should be fine . I would look at the tires ..suspension for any leaks and any abnormal steering issues . For a piece of mind u can take it to a local shop to have everything checked if u are not comfortable looking at the suspension .

I was trying to picture the damage. Can't do much about it now. Not a bad idea to look into some skid plates for things like this.

It did not hit the truck at all. Just truck went up and down. Didn’t hit undercarriage

Have a trustable shop put it up in the air so they can visually compare left/right in a comfortable setting.

Damage can take time to show even you look carefully. I could not avoid a plate of metal on the freeway in my Corolla and it actually took out my splash-guard ... took a few months of rain-wet to physically erode-melt-shred the accessory belt.

Left tires, that's the gas tank side. i would look closely at the bottom of the tank for damage.

look underneath, inspect the tires, and if nothing, RUN IT. it's an off-road-capable truck after all, not a sports car on rubber bands!

Sometimes the sidewall of tires will bubble out after hitting something like that.

Last year, a commercial vehicle I work on ran over a brick ar small piece of concrete. You could see where it bounced around under the vehicle. Smashed a relay valve, dented the floor boards, even folded over a 3/4 inch reinforcement plate. The damage was impressive.

I would suggest as others have, roll around under your truck and look for any obvious signs of damage. If you find anything that you are not sure about, snap a picture and post it. You will get an answer pretty quick if it is something to be concerned about or not.

This post just recalled another personal event, a piece of 2x4, barely a foot in length, picked up off the road and smashed my shifter lever on the side of my transmission on an old car I had. Had to drive the thing home in 1st gear and tear apart the transmission to repair it. Stuff of the road can be a major problem.

While stuck in slow moving traffic, I saw a string of several cars pulled over on the opposite side of the freeway with people standing around on phones. Most of them had flats front and rear on the same side of their cars. A little bit past them was the cause- a 2-ft long section of railroad track or heavy I-Beam in the lanes. Another car hit it as I was passing by and I could hear the blowouts, but the beam was so heavy it barely moved.

Another time I was driving my Taco on a curvy mountain hwy and a guy in a little sedan started tailgating me. There were no turnouts right then so I continued for a little bit and came around another turn and there was a boulder right there in the road too close to avoid, but I could tell I could clear its height if I straddled it just off center and did. The little tailgater was still behind me though and was way too close to see the boulder in time and he hit it hard and loud. It opened up the bottom of his car like a can opener front to almost back. He dumped all of his oil from both the engine and the tranny but luckily not his gasoline.
