Time for a upgrade. Ramps or jack stands?

I'm about to pull the CCard out on a set of 4 ton jack stands. Reg $55, $25 off; $31 and change out the door @Sears.

I have always used jack stands. Any reasons to consider "ramps"?

    1. Can't use ramps for wheel/brake/suspension/etc work.
    2. Your truck is likely high enough to do most other work without ramps.

You won't be able to take the wheels off with ramps so anything involving that is out.

    Otherwise they are fine

Used my ramps quite a bit, pre-lift. Haven't used them since.
Use my jack stands a lot.

I'd get some 6 ton jack stands. 4 tons aren't high enough, at least on my truck.

I use neither for oil changes by using a Fumoto valve.

OK I'll bite. 4 tons = 8000 lbs , My Tacoma is ~ 4,500 lbs (now). What are you driving?

The industry standard for jack stand load rating is to rate jack stands in pairs. According to ANSI standards, a single jack stand from a pair must support one and one half times the total rated load for the pair. That means a single jack stand for a pair rated at 4000 pounds must support 6000 pounds.

Jack stands when you need them. Never needed to lift a tacoma for an oil change.

Ramps if you want to see what getting in your truck with a 12" lift feels like.

Like others have said, get jack stands, and make sure they're tall enough to work. On my Tacoma with a 3" lift the 4 ton jack stands were maxed out with my tires still touching the ground. Had to return them and get 6 tons.

I just mean they're not tall enough. The 4 ton can clearly support my truck, but because it's lifted 3" on 33s, they're not tall enough.

I had to look this up. Seems like a handy little trinket.

    Anyone else use one?

Ramps are useless. Even on a unlifted 2nd Tacoma, I can reach under to access the drain plug.

At least one pair of 6 tons to reach the frame rails, and a pair of 3 tons for the rear axle will get you through most any task on a lightly modified Tacoma. Including rotating your tires.
