Some many find this helpful so I thought I'd throw it out there?

For me the seats in the Tacomas are just to low.. sitting on the floor kinda thing.. always has been.. and it's been discussed a million times as we all know. So when I purchased my new 2016 Tacoma I knew before I even bought it that I was going to address this issue right away. I searched and searched for the solution to the issue... spacers, washers, hockey pucks, phone books, I didn't like any of the ideas or remedies for the problem... then it came to me. Why not just add foam to the bottom side of the bottom cushion? I swung by my local auto upholstery shop and asked them about it. "Sure not a problem at all" he said "easy". So I dropped the truck and two hours later it was done.

    Total Cost $80.00

No only did we raise the seat "1 /1/2" but we also added a piece of foam to the top side in front to give it more contour so the seat is not so flat anymore. WOW!!!! What a TOTAL difference it makes. I'm 5'11", 200 pounds and I still have plenty of head room. There are no issues with getting in or out. I can see over the hood a lot better than before. It looks 100% stock and I didn't have to do anything to the stock bolts or fastening system. All in all it's an amazing difference in my opinion. For $80.00 it was totally worth it.

Just thought some of you might find this suggestion helpful if you are considering raising your Tacoma seat height?

    Cheers

that's a brilliant idea! I've heard some of the seat covers that actually wrap around the stock upholstery works similar to what you did but maybe not as high... either way very innovative idea and I believe to be much safer than washers/spacers for the base of the seat.

I love it. My seats are slightly too low. I like that this raises both the front and rear of the cushion. Do you ever make it to the West side? I'd love to sit in it and feel for myself!

    $80 - sounds like a good deal.

I've seen people do similar things with other truck makes. I might do it to my SR5 as the foam in it after 6 years feels like it's breaking down a bit.

This is f'n brilliant, I've bought the hardware to raise my 2nd Gen seat, I'm going to stop by an auto upholstery shop first. I wonder if they can add material to the "wings" on my sport trd seats.

Cue the haters saying Toyota should have more adjustment I shouldn't need to go spend money to have a better seat.

    Cool idea though

Im 6'3" and have a couple inches at least between me and the headliner. There are several threads on raising the seats on tacomas. Most involve adding a spacer I the rear, others have also raised the front, though that is a little more involved. Most say that the rear is sufficient. For my 2nd Gen I bought the grade 8 hardware to raise the front 3/4", and the rear 1/2". On the front I would be drilling out a rivet that holds the track to the rail, then inserting the spacer and bolt. I'm hoping that the upholstery shop can add foam to the side wings on my trd seats. This solution is great, one of those "why didn't anyone think of it before" things. kudos to the OP...

IronPeak4x4 I played around with that idea also. I added 1/4" hard cell auto foam to the wings. For my weight and fit it was to much for me. Great idea though if it fits you though. Height was my biggest issue and my fix has completely resolved my complaints about sitting to low in the truck.

I'm only 5' 6" and I wish I could lower the seat not raise it. Surprised that taller people would want it higher than it is.

Wish I would've done mines that way... stuffed a 2" seat cushion under my Wet Okole covers... but helps the back and I can see over the hood so its a win.

My Tacoma feels like I'm driving a Mack truck. No way I'd want the seat any higher

Another good idea, I have neoprene coverkings. I'm going to try that first. Hopefully the seat covers still tuck in on the sides, they are snug to start with. When I'm seated, with my feet at the pedals, my lower thighs near the front of the seat are not supported properly, this leads to fatigue for me.

Out of curiosity how do the seat heaters work with the new foam?

Depends on build. Some people are all legs. Others are all torso. Some just like being really high.
