Way back in February of 2020, I removed my pre-throttle body intake hose at 35k miles and saw this oil out of the CCV side breather hose.

Then I started researching oil catch can systems "oil separators" for the 3rd Gen Tacoma and every version was on the PCV side of the intake system which is post-throttle body. I had a Provent 200 oil separator in my '94 Chevy Suburban K2500 6.5 Turbo Diesel which worked amazing, so these systems are familiar to me.
A few weeks ago a member posted about Radium Engineering's Catch Can Kit #20-0840 http://www.radiumauto.com/Catch-Can-Kits-2016-Toyota-Tacoma-P2247.aspx They specifically make systems for the PVC and the CCV sides, that piqued my interest.
    So I ordered one.

    Packaged with care and S T I C K E R S !

    Nuts on the left!

    Nuts on the left!
CCV left, PVC right with 6AN and 10AN fittings.

    Well-made swivel fittings.

This is the location that the one or both cans will mount to. Sucks if you have anything bolted there and I will have to make a bracket to hold the Hella relay later.

    Specific PVC/fuel hose. http://www.radiumauto.com/FuelPCV-Rubber-Hose-P567.aspx

    PVC side mounted.

** I got an incorrect CCV side fitting, emailed them pictures, and Radium sent out the correct 10NA swivel fitting the next business day.
CCV side 10AN barb fittings inserted into the hoses.

    CCV side 10AN can fitting.

At 51,200 miles this vapor residue is pre-throttle body, aka CCV system, when the Radium system was installed.

CCV can left PCV can right.

    Installed.

Nice write up! I’ll be ordering mine soon.

Also I’m sure this thread will be shit show. Catch cans bring out some strong opinions.

Radium Engineering's catch can kit is a bit expensive. Surely someone has addressed both sides of the intake with less costlier can's?

I like the idea of catch cans. I definitely do not like how the plenum and intake becomes coated with motor oil. I understand why Toyota has done it (for EPA issues, don't want to vent crankcase vapors to the atmosphere).

I have not done a catch can solution as of yet, but I've been toying with the idea for a long time.

You could easily "make" your own PCV/CCV dual setup out of just part. This is a full bolt on kit with all fitting and the correct length of hose.

Please update this post with pics of how much oil each can collects once you put some miles on them.

I guess my question here would be why is this needed? Without this mod what would happen? Is it situation specific?

Being a manual. I'll stick with my single PCV catch can. Dont have all that extra room.

Man I was hyped to order this dual setup, and then I saw your post. Now I'm trying to figure out how to mount it elsewhere.

Any perspective on which is dumping more into the intake system CCV or PCV? The first photo looks terrible, presume that’s CCV. Is that correct?

I have put 10 miles on the truck since the installation and have not checked the dipsticks.
The pre-throttle body is the CCV side.
The post-throttle body, "intake manifold' is the PCV side.

I empty mine every time I get gas and rarely have more than a table spoon of fluid if that.

The individual whom hydrolocked their motor with catch can oil either way over filled their crank case and had ridiculous amounts venting, or neglected to maintain their modified equipment.

Either way operator error, not equipment failure IMHO.

I will continue to confidently run my single catch can.

Though I did put a pneumatic tools grade inline oil separator on my NCV/CCV line so not sure if that counts as dual cans.

So long as the PCVis functioning properly and if installed the oil catch can isn't getting filled or clogged the NCV/CCV should never allow oil mist into the intake, and the PCV should be dumping after the TB as it needs constant vacuum.

The NCV/CCV will however function quite happily as the PCV should the PCV system become stopped.
