204k miles later and my radio seems to be possessed. Turns on with blank screen with radio playing and then turns off. Turns on by power button and then shuts off randomly.

Not betting on a quick fix but maybe it's something simple someone else has seen.

In for the responses. My radio will shut off sometimes after going over a bump.

Not related to the OPs problem, but I was surprised the 1st time I accidentally hit the mode button on the steering wheel and the radio turned on.

I would pull the unit and inspect the wiring harness. Repair if need be and reconnect. I've seen where a bad or loose battery cable/terminal can cause stuff to cut out also. Buddies Chevy had this issue and only his stereo would cut out.

Surprised it didn’t happen sooner. 2009 models were known for “possessed” radios way back when they were being sold off dealer lots. Mine was one of them. Replaced over 9 years ago, and lately its been acting up again. Time for an after market headunit.

My 15s restarts randomly. Maybe once every 2 or 3 weeks.

This is a different issue. The Entune systems have a bug where the stereo may restart randomly when connected via bluetooth, there is a software update available at the dealer to resolve the issue.

I went through 3 and just installed a pioneer.

    Time to swap it out.
    It’s an internal failure...

Mine started to turn itself off randomly and it was getting more and more frequent. I pulled the fuse, cleaned the fuse blades, and put it back in. So far, ok, but I don't know if it's going to be a lasting fix. I did have to rest my stations.

My volume control is acting funny. Usually, nothing happens when I try to raise/lower the volume, yet the volume buttons on the steering wheel function fine. And my wife re-activated satellite radio as a xmas gift, bless her heart, but the channel button (on radio and steering wheel) will occasionally freeze and not do anything until I restart the engine. One more hiccup and I may put a new radio on my birthday list for June. If I recall correctly, the adapter for JBL radios approaches $80.

Looks very nice. Which model is that? Does it have Apple Car Play? I have that in my new work car and love how it integrates with my iPhone.

The stock radios in both of my Tundras (09 and 13) would often have unresponsive buttons and a blank screen, yet still play music. I didn’t keep the stock unit in the Taco long enough to see if it would do the same, I replaced it with a JVC.

Had the same problem in my 2014 along with a few other issues. I was convinced the Entune system was toast. Long story short, it turned out that neither Toyota nor the dealer bothered to tell me about the Entune incremental firmware updates that had been released since I bought my truck. My truck was several versions out of date. They installed the updates and I haven't had a problem since...

    It’s Pioneer MVH-600BS
    No apple car play
No cd as I play everything Bluetooth or usb.
Has Sirius using add on module
    Pandora
    Spotify

Bought it specifically for hands free phone as here in Maine we are no text and drive.
Well suppose to be anyway lol.

I did not buy the steering wheel control module yet.

    Does what I want.
    Cost me like $125

I had the issue where the radio kept turning off (along with screen and all), and it is 100% a bug associated to the vehicle starting up connected to a Bluetooth device. If you remover the device it works just fine. But for some reason if the vehicle is turned on with the device connected it turns off. I will bring into the dealership and have them replace the radio... will keep y’all updated.

I had my Alpine INEz928hd kick the bucket a few weeks ago. Started with intermittently turning off / restarting when driving. I pulled the unit out and beeped the power at the terminal and I was getting ~12v so my guess is that it overheated internally and melted something important. I did observe that the fuse from the battery that holds the radio memory was melted but it wasnt popped so it mustve been pretty hot in there, but that z928 is a fat pig and takes up the entire opening. I didnt observe any damaged wires save a nick in the sleeve of one of the antenna leads IIRC. Bottomline, I'm due for a new radio now.

Did you figure out what the internal problem was? I installed a pioneer stereo 2 years ago and it's been working fine until a few months ago. The stereo will turn on and off and the cigarette/ phone charging ports won't work at the same time the stereo is messing up especially on rough roads. Now it won't come on at all. I've pulled everything out and there is no lose wires, at least that I can see. I've never had this problem.
