I live in Utah and we've had tons of snow this year (2019). Regularly, the sensor behind the Tacoma symbol up front gets covered in slush/snow, turning off my pre-collision and radar cruise control.
No, I have not changed out my grill. And yes, I know I can get regular cruise control back by pressing in the cruise control button for a second and a half to turn off radar cruise to get it back up and running.

Anyone make a mod yet that heats up the Toyota symbol to melt it off or something? Something like for the side mirrors. Cause, I'd buy it!

I’m not positive, but I think it is not available when too cold. Has nothing to do with being covered. It has happened to me a few times and we don’t get snow. If you look close, there is a snowflake above the icon.

I've had a record snow fall this year & very low temps with 0 issues with mine. Not sure if I'm just lucky or there is an issue with some of these trucks that Toyota needs to address? Been a lot of posts this winter about this!

There was a TSB on these to reseal them. Maybe stop by and see if that’s the case. Prior mine was going off in heavy rain but after I haven’t had a issue but it was after monsoons so next year will tell me the truth

I had the recall done after my sensor completely died right before a 2,800 mile trip. Heavy rain back in June must have waterlogged it & message warning popped up within minutes of driving every single time I drove it. Kinda sucked I didn't have time to get it fixed before I left!

Last winter when the truck was still new I had zero issues even with it plastered with snow & ice. In the last few days just a lil snow or ice has triggered the warning twice now. This really has turned into a system that is unreliable which is strange since other Toyota models aren't having the same issues. Why the Tacoma?

Speculating here I'd think it's maybe a faulty sensor. A little snow stuck to the center grill piece shouldn't interfere with the radar that's already transmitting through plastic.. Now, if it was snowing super hard or raining super hard, then sure - maybe some issues with the millimeter wave radar.

There is a TSB available for the radar sensor. Might be relevant. They put a protective cover over it after doing a diagnostic. https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads...ith-pro-grills-or-lifts.608494/#post-20564835

I have a issue hopefully someone here can help with or direct me to the right location.
A deer and I had a close encounter, damaged the driver side front, believe it or not my radar still worked great. After the repair i began to have issues, they replaced the radar but I have found that the cover if in place shuts the radar down after 2 to 10 miles of driving. I removed the cover and it works perfect. It's the same cover as before, plus it's plastic, they have calibrated it and it works good for a day then back to same shut down and error on my dash. Any thoughts on what I need to do to fix this?

It's the pro grill, not stock, so the radar was dropped down maybe 6 inches,l. This is not the cause as I bought my truck this way and never had an issue.

Any ideas would greatly be appreciated.

    Ps before asked.
The old radar was left in originally but would shut down, but with the cover off it worked fine, so I had a new radar installed.

intake mods, firestone airbags, campershell, backup lights,
Happened to me just last evening. Had to go to Flag (7,000) and it started snowing and cold. It didn't work until I dropped down to
above freezing and the snow and ice fell off.

I had that TSB done on my 2019 when I bought it. They basically put a piece of cheap foam tape over the top of the sensor behind the grill to keep slush and mush from getting down to the sensor element. I was pretty pathetic fix, so I went one step further and sealed my sensor on the top and sides with some of that heavy duty Gorilla tape. Nothing can get to my radar sensor now and I have had zero issues since doing my Gorilla tape mod.
