Anyone got recommendations as to good brand of aftermarket racks that aren't junk? There's a lot of them out but I've never heard of most of them. The Toyota oem are kinda pricy but may be worth it. 2003 Tacoma Xtracab 3.4L TRD 4X4 M/T. Thanks

I ordered one through Detroit Axle on Ebay with the lifetime warranty. I've probably used the free warranty claim 4 times now. They gave me a brand new rack once and it lasted a good while.

My personal experience tells me that ALL aftermarket racks are junk. After 15,000 or 20,000 miles, if they last that long, they loosen up, or leak, or both.

A brand new rack from a Toyota dealer is well worth the price, especially if you like driving on forest roads or two-track roads where you're not doing any hardcore rock crawling.

Go for the OEM. A lifetime warranty is fine if you want to keep replacing the rack, but why would you want to do that every few thousand miles. Plus, with an OEM rack, you'll get the new updated rack support bearing as opposed to the older rack guide.

Also, this is a very helpful step-by-step guide on replacing the rack - with links to the parts and tools needed, plus plenty of pics:

    OEM.

Lifetime replacement on aftermarket CV axles is nice because they're easy to swap out. But I wouldn't want to be changing out a steering rack every couple years when it starts to leak or fails.

Last I heard, McGeorge Toyota had the best price on new OEM racks at just north of $500 iirc.

OEM rack and order the Energy Suspension bushings for it. Best combo there is.

Remains to be seen I bought the tires and wheels the rest came along
Myself I would Go with A new Toyota Rack!

If your going aftermarket buy local so all the return shipping is not so expensive

If your paying labor to swap racks as that not warrantied it gets expensive.

Oem, check your local dealer, they might have a good price and some of them even deliver for free locally.

When I replaced my steering rack, I got it from The Rack Doctor. They only deal with and rebuild OEM racks. They have a lifetime warranty.

Oem - They come with ITR’s already installed and are basically the same price as a Chinese remanned.

Look for a local dealership that sells parts online at a discount and let’s you pick them up w/o a shipping fee.

This thread put the curse on me, got that T4R LCA installed and aligned yesterday but RPM says my rack is on the way out. Just ordered the McGeorge one
