I’m looking for a solution for a rack mounted water tank but don’t want to pay $500 for some of the other “well-known” options. Anyone made their own or have another solution? I need it to be pressurized to take showers and wash off equipment.

    Thanks in advance.

    4 run, 2 don't
    So...2nd Gen Tacoma's aren't specific to rack-mounted water tanks.

Anyway, my in-laws had bought me the Water Port and I used it a ton -

Later moved it to the driver side but it left tons of room for my case -

I'm thinking about going the DIY route and buy a small air compressor. that way I can make it customizable to my truck.

Keep in mind that adds a lot of weight up high and signifigantly raises your CG.

I have the 3.5gal I think. In the bed. Attached to rail. Have bed stiffeners. It’s removable, can be put in other places, and comes with their stock length hose

they do less a longer hose I thought about getting
But then that’s more bunched up coiled hose taking up space in the bed

the longer WaterPort roof tank, idk if it’s too long to fit in the bed or where else it could possibly go besides a rack

unless making a custom tubular one big enough to hold more water, and just long enough to fit in the bed
Which is more stress on the bedside/rail

and doesn’t give the option of hot water from being heated by the sun exposed on the roof rack; though there’s other ways to heat the water

This, there are tons of examples of various setups online. I initially used some PVC pipe but decided it was too heavy; it's easy enough to glue any parts you want together to make any style you like- including adding a Schrader valve to pressurize it.

Here is the tank I made several years ago. Still in use to this day and works great, Installed one of the pop out shower curtains recently not in pics.

I’ve built 2 similar to this design ^^^
They sit under my cross arms, one on each side. I’ve got over 3 years of service out of them.

Canopy, fitted seat covers, OBA with self leveling air bags, 100w solar, dual Rhino Rack Pioneer platforms, side & rear LED work/FU lights, CB, cell booster. 7x16 cargo conversion, 3" lift, 7'x6.5' fold down aluminum rear deck.
I have used a rack mounted tank before. Now, I keep a Scepter 20L water can in the bed. More water than using a single 4" pipe, no additional weight on the canopy while driving. I added a spigot and metal bolt in valve stem. Spigot has a tube that runs to the bottom of the can.

    Too much to list
Ironman 4x4 roof rack water tank, made my own bracket to hold it.

Ive used it as gravity fed and also off of a 12v water pump.

13 gallons, $150 or so total.

Thanks all for the info and pics. Going to make one with a compressor to use. I'll mount it to the roof on my Front Runner rack.

It’s a fun project. For PVC or ABS just make sure to not over pressurize as they can explode. I use 30 psi or less and get great flow. As the tank ages and with more use I will probably decrease the psi. Good luck…have fun

Good to know thanks! I'll set aside a day to get it dialed in for the summer!
