Hey guys. Unfortunately I have tinnitus and recently put on some Toyo Open Country AT3's, not the quietest tire. My tire shop is recommending Goodyear wrangler adventurer kevlar AT's as they are supposed to be quiet but Im thinking they wont be much of an improvement.
I could go with a all season type tire like a Michelin defender ltx. Would anyone know of a good quiet tire for a Tacoma?

My Nitto Terra Grapplers are quiet up to 50+ mph but start to sing after that. I too would like to find tires that are quiet at highway speed yet have some decent tread for the occasional off road trip.

    Yeah.
I'd check Tire Rack tests. They don't have tests for all tires, but it might give you a direction to look if noise is your #1 issue, as I think that's one thing they rate.

Michellin LTX or any 4 season touring tire will be your best bet

You can find reviews for almost every tire at tirerack.com. Michelins would be quiet. Firestones are quiet. Depends on if you need A/T or not.

Thanks guys. The whole point of the truck is to have the ability to go off road so I would be bummed to put 4 seasons on, but if I have to...
I did see Tire Rack had reviews but I wasnt sure to trust them. But thats a starting point at least. The Nitro's would be similar to the Toyo's in aggressive tread and I read reviews that the Toyo's also start to present noise about 50. I put dynamat every where so hard to tell.
When you start to go with something like the Michelin LTX it starts looking less like a truck but that kinda 4 season tire will be significantly quieter than a AT tire?
Im almost at the point where I have to sell the truck but I got the cabin noise down to 70dbA which is good for any vehicle so tires could have a big impact. Whats funny about the reviews for the toyo at3 is that they said it was quieter than the AT2's and presented a little noise over 50. I imagine going with any AT tire will net me the same results as my toyo's.

Bridgestone dueller revos look to be the least aggressive between most of the other all terrain tires.

A little offshoot from tires, have you considered sound deadening the body panels? It may get you to a comfortable road noise level while still allowing a tire that is more suitable for occasional off-road use.

Are they as quiet as a 4 season, they look awesome but agro, cant believe with that tread pattern they are quiet. More quiet then my Toyo's I guess.

Everyone will claim their tires are quiet. It's how message boards work. Calling BFG KO2's quiet shows the weakness of internet boards. They are 100% not a quiet tire.

Toyo AT2's used to be one of the quietest, the AT3's as you found out aren't that quiet.

My cooper AT3 4S were really quiet but the tread wear was poor and they didnt last long. I wouldn't recommend them.

Yokohama G015 is the quietest "all terrain" that I've driven on.

Nitto Terra grapplers are a good choice, but I don't think it would be much of a change from Toyo AT3's.

You may just need to lower your standards and enjoy the noise. I have recently, I just deal with it at higher speeds.

I have those Yokohama Geolander G015 ATs on my 2014 and they are very quiet. I’ve only had them on for a few thousand miles, so I can’t comment on tread wear or if they will stay quiet as they wear. So far so good!

The stock Wranglers on the OR/Pro are pretty quiet.

Perhaps your experience with a given tire is different from mine. But my KO2's are as quite as my Cooper AT3's were. My Cooper's were not the 4S but were the previous SL load rated version and I got over 65K out of them. I will say that no matter who tried they could never get them balanced really well. For example they were 265/75/16 SL on FN wheels (60lb package) my current BFG KO2's 285/75/17 E load rated on Method 70's (90-95lb package) took at most 1/3 the amount of weight and ride way better. Ran the Coopers at 32psi the KO2's I run at 25psi on the road.

I've had Geolander GO15s on four trucks and like how quiet they are and how they wear. I tried some Patagonia tires (forget which brand makes them) and they were quiet too, but they wore oddly and developed persistent flat spots if they were parked for long or in cold weather. I've had Goodyear, Bridgestone, Michelin, and others over the years and so far I like the Geolanders the best. No tire is perfect, but these filled my needs and one need was quiet. Amazon sells them for about $90 less than tire rack last time I checked and be sure you order LTs specifically unless you want the passenger car tires.

So far I’ve been very happy with how smooth and quiet my SL Goodyear Ultra Terrains are but they only have a few thou on them.
