We just bought a 2022 Tacoma Off Road pickup.

I am set to order a brake controller and I like the Redarc brand. I see that the price has gone up on the Tow-pro Elite, to $185.
Is it worth the money to choose this over the $139 cheaper product?
I have a 2 thousand lb trailer now but have no idea what I may have in the future. Whatever that will be will be as light as I can get.

Thank you for your suggestions, and for your time to reply.

I have the elite, and it's a great product. Installation wasn't bad, and it fits and looks perfect, unlike some other controllers, which can be a bit of an eyesore. It tucks right away and looks OEM. Just make sure to get the Tacoma-specific harness from them. I followed some guides here that have you buying a different harness and doing some splicing to get it to work, but in the end, I ended up with the Redarc Tacoma harness anyway, so save yourself the trouble.

I went for the Redarc Liberty. The Liberty can do two braked axles which is enough for anything a Tacoma can tow.

The Elite can do three braked axles and has a special off-road trailer mode, neither of which I needed.

The only difference on install, the Liberty uses regular computer network cable for the switch (RJ45 Cat5 Patch). The Elite uses something less common. I prefer the network cable because you can easily buy or make a custom length.

Well, I went ahead and bought the Elite, and hoped for, but accept, it will not plug into my Tacoma, and I will, (may) splice it to make it work. After taxes it came to just over 2 hundred. I do appreciate the replies, and the comment about being able to handle two axles, the Liberty, but I won't be hauling anything with three axles.
Really frustrating that I might have to spend another $20 for a compatible cable.
    Thank you.

Maybe I'm confused. If you don't need three axles with brakes, then get the lower cost Liberty. For the cost of the Elite module alone, you can get the Liberty with Tacoma specific harness and Toyota specific switch plate.

    Edit:
$169 for Liberty with Tacoma specific cable (plug and play) and Toyota switch plate. Elite module that includes generic (splice required) cable is $219.

You have a plug and play connector in the foot well. I strongly suggest not cutting that off and splicing. It is worth far far more than $20 not to cut factory wiring, let alone the pain of working in such tight areas on wiring.

I bought the elite and couldn't be happier. Check out my install thread if you want to see details. Link in my signature and scroll down to the towing section for the link to the Redarc install.

you really cannot go wrong either way, it is just deciding if the difference in features is worth it. I tow on and off road (jeep trails, service roads, cross country off-road) so I went with the elite.
