Hi all, new to the truck game but an old player in the car world.
I have a couple questions, I tried the search feature but came up with mostly Gen 2 answers or they never listed offsets. You can see where I’m going with this.
I just recently bought a 2017 taco TRDsport 4x4 double cab long box. And I’m wondering if this particular setup willwork.

My budget is limited and I’m not a big off roader, I use trucks for hauling tools gear etc for work. So here’s what I’m thinking.

3/1 level kit probably low range blocks

Which I hope will give enough clearance to fit nittos ridge grabblers 295/55r20 on a 20 x 10 inch with a -19” offset on the rims.

    1) will this fit? Some cutting is fine

    2) how much will this throw out my speedo? Some have said it corrects the error in the speedo or is that only on Gen 2’s?

    3) the rims are satin black and want to run full locking lug nuts in black. Anyone have a company preference or knowwhat threading and depth of nutsneeded on aftermarket rims.

    4) as far as TPMS should I just swap the sensors from the oem wheels? Or just put in aftermarket ones? I’m guessingthe sensors will still need to be woken up at a tire shop or dealer.

    That’s for the help fellas

thats alotta ??? I'm far from an expert.......so...others will chime in..

20" tires ? study link I attached on tire/size gear ratio.....you may change your mind

TPMS can be added to new aftermarket wheels.....about $25 a pop.....

    yes....tire shop needs to program.....lift ?

I used 5100 Bilsteins all 4 corners...leveled the front with Bilstein adj..2" lift

I'm an ole fart & didn't want the prob's with oversized rubbing tires and

lifted/altered suspensions....poor fuel mileage that comes with too tall tires & gear ratios

Need to know the offset of the wheels you’re wanting to put on. Those 295 Nitto’s are 32.76 in diameter. A 0 offset Wheel will work best. Definitely do not want + offset which will tuck the wheel further in. You don’t want a high - offset wheel either. This pushes the wheel out and will cause to rub fenders. 0 offset wheels give your tires the most room.

    It’s in the posting Stefan.
    But it’s a 20 x 10 rim with a -19 offset.
    Running nittos 295/55R20 ridge grapplers.
Which to keep things budget friendly and as I don’t off road a 3/1 level lift.
You guys don’t know which size of lugs you use on aftermarket do you?

Sorry! Missed the offset. You’d definitely have to do some trimming and CMC. No way those are going to fit with that high of a - offset. Why 20’s? They look kind of huge on Tacoma’s.

Love the big wheel look ;)
Really? -19 is actually is only 5 mm more inboard than the standard -24 on most 10 inch wide wheels and the tires are
actually slightly smaller in height and width than the 33 x 12.5 tires most guys covet.
And lots of guys run the 33’s on stock suspension and stock wheels which are way more inboard without rubbing with slight caster tweaks.
I figured it might be the outer corners that would be the issue but with the slightly less outboard offset and slightly narrower and shorter tires it could work.
Arghh so many decisions. I wanted the hell ya no issues bud message.
Someone must run a similar setup.

3rd gen Tacoma’s come with a +25 offset. You’re looking at -19. It may not seem like it, but that is a big difference. I have 0 offset 16x8 wheels with 33” tires and have NO room whatsoever. No way you’re putting 20x12.5 with 33” tires and not trim. Just not going to happen.

    3 inch lift
I had 285 75 r16 on stock offset and small spacer and I only rubbed plastic. The tire rim combo your looking at is only slightly smaller than mine so you might be fine with a bigger offset just be careful about going to far negative it can be just as harmful as spacers if not careful. I switched to a 0 mm offset rim to help combat that. I also have a 3 inch lift though. Hope that may help best of luck!

I think with the -19 offset he is going to be too far out in to the fender. He’s going to rub at full lock and definitely in reverse. The 12.5 width is what is going to kill him.

It’s actually smaller than 33 12.5 not a lot but it is.
Big I am running a 3 inch lift and not sure if you guys are aware but this is on a brand new 2017 trd sport 4x4. Not a Gen 2 I hear that makes a difference in trimming?? I hear these trucks sit a inch higher from factory according to some suspension suppliers I read about on this site.
All I truely want is a tire that sticks out about 2 inches at most past the fenders with a decent sidewall. But the wider stance look is more my target.
And I’d like to run the Nitto ridge grapplers cause they look bad ass. ;)

No, I know it’s a 3rd gen. So is mine. Everyone I know running 33” tires on -12 or greater offsets on 3rd gens have to CMC and trim. And that’s with 16x8.5 and 17x8.5! You’re talking 20 rims. Even if they were 20x10.5 you’d have to trim with -19 offset. Again, I have a 3rd gen with 16x8 Methods and 33” tires and I BARELY miss having to CMC. Only reason I don’t is because the wheels are 0 offset. My tires sit directly in the center of the wheel well so they have maximum amount of space to operate.

    @Shiftgate

Just talked to this guy. He’s running 20x12’s -44 offset and said he definitely had to CMC and trim A LOT. He has a 3.5 inch lift. The difference in -19 offset and -44 offset is between 1/8 and 1/4 inch. He also had to re-gear to 4.88’s.

Regardless, if he had to trim that much with that lift, the OP of this thread will definitely have to trim.

I don’t mind messing up the inner liners and possibly cmc just don’t want to have to cut the bottoms corners of the exterior fenders out.
Don’t want me need to go big to have to do trimming that would be super noticeable.

I am also trying to figure out what size tires I can get with a 17 or 18" wheel with -12 offset... I really like the ridge grapplers as well... I have a TRD Pro however, so I do believe it sits up a bit higher than the TRD 4x4 sport, but I could be wrong on that.. I was thinking 295/70/17s if I run with 17" wheels or if I get 18's, 305/65/18s

I do believe I would still have to lift it some however, how much, I am not sure.. I like the TRD Pro suspension, but thought about getting a 3f/2r leveling kit..

    Any help is appreciated.

BKS223 the 295/70 r 17 set up is the exact setup I have just purchased to run on 0 mm I’ll let you know how it works. I ran all of the numbers and it should be fine on a 3 inch lift which I’m running now. I have 285s 75s on 16 with -8 offset and just plastic trimming. Mind you I have second gen so I bet 3rd gen would fit even easier just my opinion

I’m researching this, but I can tell you the Ridge Grappler doesn’t come in 305/65R18.

Me personally, I would not go above 17” size wheel. 18’s and 20’s look out of place on Tacoma’s imo.
