For what it's worth, I went with SumoSprings, but my main reason was to keep the truck from squatting when towing. There is a local trail that I had bottomed out on the bump stops and when I went back with the SumoSprings it was no long an issue. They were an easy bolt on with no needed modifications to make them work. You can also get them in different hardness so you could likely get the softest for your purpose. They do ride just under the frame rails though and will engage sooner than some of the above mentioned options.

Both I went with Wheelers rear flip kit and front bump stops. Just helps with any hard hits etc … These bump stops are progressive way better than the stock ones which are like rocks.

    Good Luck OP :hattip:

U-bolt flip helps with clearance as it moves the mounting plate above the axle. After the flip the lowest point will be where the u-bolts wrap around the axle itself.

Exactly, I can't recommend enough Timbren. I have been using them for years. Currently I have them on 3 vehicles. They basically prevent sagging, bottoming out, side to side sway. Once installed they are maintenance free, no worry about punctured airbags, cracked air lines, compressor failure. And the best part is that they last a lifetime and they work. I payed with my own money for all of them and I'd say they are one of the best suspension upgrades one can invest in.

If you need to ask, you likely don't need hydro bumps, and still have a lot of other mods to make before they make sense. They are nearer to the end of a full suspension swap rabbit trail, than the beginning.

As for timbrens, watch this first:
    https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=HSg5QYdum20

I wouldn't get them for your application until doing a shock relocation and extending rear shock travel to at least 10 inches.

I would look into superbumps, durobumps or speedbumps. These generally compress around 1.75" at full crush, so you will still loose a bit of free travel over a stock bump that only compresses some 0.75" at the rear.

I would not bother with bump replacement on the front, reduces free travel too much.

Lots of great info here and many repping the Timbren brand which is awesome to see! It is true that the Timbren bumps will aid in all your off-road adventures and help make sure you get back in one piece. The stock bumps are just not adequate to handle the stress that you are putting on your rear end when "sending it" at the dunes. While a full front and rear replacement would be the best course of action we have seen many choose to upgrade the rears first not just to save money but because they use their trucks for a number of things, especially when loading up the bed.

I need to learn more about reducing travel. With the new tacoma this was also a new concept as far as trucks go.

The size difference! What's the point of having one so small?

Totally agree, but this is a common practice amongst all truck manufacturers. I think they do it to save money...who knows

One other thing, Tundra and Tacoma share the same OEM bump stops!, keeping in mind that Tundra is much heavier therefore if you hit something...

The stock bump is primarily a failsafe. Its stiffness is made higher so it can sit lower and let the shock down travel more. This results in a very abrupt transition that isn't so great when doing whoops. All the aftermarket bumps exist to smooth this out. The trade off is that you hit your bumps sooner.
