I have been reading posts about bumpstops on TW but haven't run across anything explaining what they do exactly (I know, there's the internet) and why upgrade. I think I understand their purpose - so suspension parts are not banging and damaging each other but I was wondering about upgrading and hydraulic bumpstops? I have been and will be taking my taco off roading and well.. its not pretty sometimes. I am not the most gentle or skilled wheeler quite yet. I am still new to wheeling this truck as opposed to the xterra (tank) I learned on for the last 5 years. Why do people upgrade, is it for more protection when wheeling? What is the downside to upgrading? I see a lot of people asking questions about fitment and what goes with their suspension when upgrading. Should I upgrade if I am off roading a lot? What is the deal with hydraulic bumpstops? TIA

    Check build thread!
The upgraded bumpstops are mainly for loads. If you're whacking your truck off the bump stops repeatedly offroad, you're doing something wrong.

    Send it!

EDIT: where is that video of the truck jumping a ditch and hitting a pole shed when you need it?

Stock bump stops are like hockey pucks, terrible, while duro bumps or wheelers super bumps are more progressive, the rubber cushions as it compresses.
I really like the duro bumps.

Some after-market bump stops create a more gradual "stop" than the factory ones, and some are set up to engage and stop the suspension from up-travel at a higher point, which is often a good idea if you're running bigger tires than what came on the vehicle. Some after-market bump stops do both of those things.

hydraulic stops are fancy and very expensive, and will probably make bottoming out far less jarring, but aren't likely to be necessary unless you're running desert races, or working as a chase truck for something like that.

Should I get stops for front and rear? Why just one end and not both?

If I went off-road I would have the fronts also . Although I’ve been thinking about replacing the fronts anyway . The rear bumps help immensely when towing .

    All of them.
I made the change from a foam stop to air bump. If you are just daily driving or trail running your truck a decent foam setup will be far better than stock. Air bumps are amazing with harder faster hits as the work almost like a second shock to slow the axle. The foam ones tend to hold energy so they kinda rebound hard compared. If you have the money I say definitely worth it. But not necessary 20210708_124042.jpg
