Can anyone say with a great degree of accuracy if there is a difference in the build quality of Tacoma trucks coming from Mexico as apposed to those being built in Texas ????

I think there was a time that one line was pre wireing of accessories like cruise and fog lights even if the truck didn't get them, but that was 10 years ago. I would guess no as Toyota has a assembly line structure and system that is used in all factories.

The Mexican plant has more build quality awards than the San Antonio plant.

It doesn't matter which plant the truck is built at. The production of these trucks are automated at both plants and robotic machines do most of the work.

It's a mass produced vehicles so I assume the defects are pretty equal at both plants.

Oh well mine is built in Texas, at least I can tell my douchebag coworkers that drive chevys and RAM pickups my foreign brand truck was proudly built in America.

No major issues have been attributable to one plant versus the other. They are Toyota engineering or supplier problems.

I have a Texas Tacoma that's all sorts of fucked up.

These threads pop up from time to time with this subtle underlying anti-Mexican tone. It's either built by Mexicans in Mexico or Mexicans in Texico.

Both locations are susceptible to producing problematic third gens. We've seen quality issues from both plants.

Quality issues happen with every vehicle on the market.

I have a Mexico built Tacoma DCSB OR with trailer tow and prem tech package . I don't have a lot of miles 2,600 in the first month but luckily I have had zero issues so far.

Mine was built in Fremont, California and it hasn't given me any problems - first gens rack up in the hundreds of thousands of miles.

That same factory (NUMMI) eventually was bought by Tesla and now they manufacture all Tesla vehicles there.

It's crazy how many different "import" cars are built elsewhere. Fords are built in Sonora, Mexico - and my Mercedes-Benz was built in Spartanville, South Carolina.

Toyota owners having sentences leave their mouths like "luckily no issues in 2600 miles" should be an indicator of how a lot of us feel about the Toyota's built in the U.S. and in Mexico. A good vehicle, but not the same.

You're not buying a Japanese built vehicle anymore. Built in Mexico, or in the U.S. by Americans with Unions involved. Take your pick.

My Tacoma was built in Texas. I had 10k trouble free miles. Now I have an MT with a drivetrain clunk, a slightly leaking - whining rear diff, and a whistling high pressure fuel pump. I had issues on my 2013 Taco which resulted Toyota buying my truck back and selling me an FJ Cruiser at a great deal. The FJ was new and was still in the shop 12 times over 5 years for repairs that tally'd warranty work of around 3k.

I will add that I drove the FJ for 5 years and traded it for $2k less than I paid new.

You won't find a degree of accuracy on Tacomaworld about quality differences - no one knows other than Toyota and they will never release that as it would indicate that they have internal issues. That being said, Toyota in terms of reliability is on par with many other manufacturers. You buy a Toyota truck versus many others because it better fits the bill for what you are use a vehicle for and its capability.

More importantly, get the Tacoma configuration you want. I believe all Access Cabs and all Double Cab 4 cylinders are only assembled in Texas. V6 Double Cabs LB and SB are assembled in both plants.

If the first character on the VIN is a 1, 4 or 5, it indicates the assembly country is USA. If the first character of the VIN is a 3, it was assembled in Mexico.
