I have a 2021 with the qi wireless charging pad under the climate controls
I hit the qi button to activate it but when I place my iphone on it, nothing happens
When I take the case off - it starts to charge

Not sure what's up. My phone is an iphone 12max and the case I'm using is the apple silicon case so it's very thin.

I have other wireless chargers in my other vehicles (non-qi) and they work just fine.

I don't know if I should try a new case or take it to Toyota to see if they would swap out the charging pad.

    Any suggestions?

I wouldn’t expect much from a wireless charging pad in a Tacoma. Not sure if there is anything that can really help

My 11 Pro Max worked with the case on. My 12 Pro Max will not. It’s fucking frustrating.

I was about to buy a 12 pro max. Might as well avoid that one

Yeah wait until the 13 comes out with the 120hz screen. Hopefully it’ll actually charge

It is induction. Distance matters. Take case off and center it. It will charge more slowly than hard wire but that’s not bad for the battery.

Once you know how it will change without a case, find a leather or other thin case and try again. As this lifts up the phone it will charge more slowly.

    Science.

I wouldn’t let the charging capability of the garbage wireless charger dictate my phone purchase.

The 12 ProMax battery life is so worth it. That qi charger is wack. Get a 2a cigarette charger and be done w it.

Sorry, not really directed at you haha.

It's a gimmick. Garbage. Doesn't work well with any phone, with or without a case. Plug your phone into the USB jack and take advantage of Apple Play (or Android Auto) and forget that stupid Qi charger even exists.

Your phone is too powerful. The charger in the truck is the older slower kind and can’t really charge fast enough or with enough power to fill up the newer phones iPhone 10 and above I believe. I have an 11 max pro and don’t even waste my time with the Qi charger. Also phone needs to be naked to charge correctly.

My suggestion is screw that thing overheats garbage. The protective rubber on it bubbled up slow charger also . Best fix get a joying head unit best thing ever for the tacoma. I set my phone down and use my wonderful 9in display touch screen . I'm android s20 ultra . The head unit come with new android 10. I paid like $380 with shipping on Amazon. It says it's for a corolla lol everything is plug and play . Gps works great , wifi works great any other questions just ask

You had me at 12 Max. It’s not your case. Those cases work just fine on the 12 Pro. You need to find the center of the magnet on the Qi charger and center your phone on it. Experiment. The 12 Pro has to be all the way to left right next to the charging light.

Interesting. The 11 and 12 both charge on my qi with cover on. Centering the phone is key to getting the charger to work perfectly, I find.

Yeah my 12 Pro Max has to be in a different position than the 11 on my nightstand charger

My S8 and Note 9 have never had an issue with the Qi. Both have cases as well. Sounds more like a phone issue than a truck issue.

Mine works fine as well, Galaxy S20 with an otterbox case. It's not a fast charger, but works well enough to charge the phone ~10% on a 30 min drive

Mods? We don't need no stinking mods.
My Galaxy Note 10 charges slow AF even with a slim Otterbox "commuter" case.

Not to mention, every time I go over a bump it moves to phone just enough that it loses contact with the pad and has to reconnect.

Glad you have had a better experience with your S8 and Note 9. But AFAIC the wireless charging pad is junk.

Besides, plugging in the USB charges the phone and activates the Android Auto. And why wouldn't you want to take advantage of that? Wireless charging won't get your music, texts, maps, etc. on your touchscreen. It is superior in every way to the Qi charger.

I get annoyed with the cable running out of the dash is the main reason I don't use Android Auto all the time. On longer drives for sure but back and forth to work, the store, etc, the Qi charger works if I even take the phone out of my pocket. With the bluetooth link I still get texts and music on the screen anyway.

Absolutely. For a 2-minute drive to the grocery store, I just let it default to Bluetooth.

(It's not as if you're going to get any measurable charge from Qi or a cable in that amount of time anyway.)

If you don't like the cable hanging out, consider a 6 inch coiled USB cable. I have one, barley notice it's there at all. Was like 5 dollars on Amazon.
