I don’t know if the QI charger in my 2021 TRD OR is working or not. When I put my new IPhone 13 Pro Max on it the charging indicator on the phone doesn’t come on. I have had the truck for around five months. I don’t know that I have ever tried to use the charger until now. The button for the QI charger has been on since I bought it new. Would that have hurt anything as far as damaging the charger? I didn’t know if you were supposed to turn it off and on as you were using it. Could leaving it on all the time have damaged it. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

    Enough for now
The only issues known with the Qi charger is that the rubber pad bubbles up from the heat. A known issue and dealers have fixed it. I don’t keep it in on unless I have a device on it

That charger is useless imo. When my boyfriend bought his 2016 Tacoma, the phone would get very hot and not charge very fast.

With my new 2021, seems like it’s the same. Just gets really hot and charges super slow. I find it so useless. There were some threads where someone replaced the module or something.

I just plug my phone in and get a quicker charge if needed.

I can’t get my new 13 pro to work on it. That said, I’ve never tired it with my case off (it’s a pain in the ass to take off and I’m lazy). It worked fine with my iPhone 8. Same for my cheapo wireless charger on my nightstand.

Do 13s only maybe work with apple MagSafe chargers?

Do you all think it was damaged by leaving it on all the time. Are you supposed to turn it off when not in use? Like I said it was turned on when I bought it. TIA.

My old Galaxy charged great on it, unfortunately my new phone does not have charge pad capabilities so back to a cord.

Most definitely not. Mines on all the time, still working since 2017 lol. Granted I don't use, but friends sometimes throw there phone there to charge (super slowly mind you).

I found it works better with no phone case on the phone. My 12 max won’t charge with the case on.

Is the light on the left hand side of the charge pad coming on when you put you phone on it? If not, it could be your case.

Leaving the unit on without a phone on it will not damage it. My home Qi charger never turns off.

For what it's worth, shortly after getting my truck we did a trip to the Oregon coast. So I used the Qi charger, that quickly turned into a mistake... the phone got hot but the charger would turn off when the phone reached 100% then turn back on when it dropped below. I was streaming music so the phone was constantly lowering the volume and beeping going in and out of charge! I haven't used the charger since.

I have a Samsung galaxy s21 and it doesn't charge on the wireless qi in the truck, but will at home, so it's not strictly an apple thing.

Every phone I've tried on it does not work well. Here are a few links people have posted where they swap it out with aftermarket:

I tested my new iPhone 13 pro with Apple's MagSafe silicone case and the QI charger works fine. I do not use the QI charger but I wanted to test if it worked with the MagSafe protective case. I found that the orientation of the phone on the pad was important to allow the phone to work with the charger. In my situation, the top of the phone must lie on the left side of the pad (nearest to the steering wheel,) and pulled close to the edge of the pad (nearest to the shifter.)

Agreed. I'd much rather have the storage cubby instead of this stupid charger. I'd love to see theses replaced.

My wife just upgraded from an iPhone XR to a 13 ProMax. The XR always charged fine I’m my 2020 TRD Sport. I never used it with my 11 Pro Max because I have to plug in for CarPlay.
Now that she has a 13 Pro Max, the charger in the truck seems to be in the wrong spot for the way the phone fits in the space. I can get it to start to charge without the case and if it’s on the front lip of the charger. It probably isn’t charging very well like that though.

Not trying to argue but I'll give the opposite - I have an iPhone 7 or Sae whatever one has the wireless charging. I use the wireless carplay adapter too.

That setup is great. Phone does get warm but not catastrophic - I've had good luck with that pair on longer road trips. Day to day use going to work I just leave my phone in my pocket but going out to Michigan, KAT, up to VT etc using that setup has been pretty nice. No wires and gets power and apple carplay.

My charger in my 2018 would only work when I removed the case from my phone (unacceptable). Although It worked with my Xs MAX, 11 MAX, 12 MAX (all caseless), it was slow. I finally gave up and put this charger in (15W), which works with the my case on (13 PRO MAX).

    https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09F38ZR6L?ref=ppx_yo2_dt_b_product_details

Once I verified it worked as advertised, I wired it to the stock switch, so I can turn it on and off.

Better off getting a phone mount for the truck that also includes a QI charger built into the mount. That way you can actually make use of your phone while it's charging, such as using the Waze app

I have had trouble charging IPhones with cases on mine. When it does work it’s a lot slower than the wireless chargers I have at home too.

I got the charger to work once I removed the Otterbox Defender Pro case.
