I have read the Qi charger found on some Tacoma's can have problems and in general is not a very good charger. I used a wireless charger on a rental car earlier this year and it proved pretty convenient, so when I bought the Tacoma a month ago I was happy it had one. However none of my phones would charge with it, so I thought it was broken from the factory. The other day however I tried with the iphone 15 and it works! Samsung and iphone 14 do not, no matter how I position it. Is this a common experience?

Yes, it's a very weak charger and normally just warms your phones if they're on the larger side. I ended up disabling mine and repurposing the button to control footwell leds.

I haven't tried my new-ish iphone 15 in my truck yet.
The dash mount I got for my phone makes it so much easier, I haven't even thought about the wireless.
When I first bought my 2019, the Android I had would charge, albeit extremely slow and the phone would get hot (and sometimes shut itself and/or the charger down)

The camera bump on the back prevents the phone from laying flat and interfacing with the qi charger. Depending on how far the bump protrudes will determine wether or not the phone will charge.
Qi sucks. I put a 3d printed tray with a wireless charging puck there

What did you do to “disable and repurpose”! i wouldn’t mind changing mine to something more useful myself.

Just unplugged the harness that connects the qi charger, figured out which wires were power and ground and tapped those to power the control box for my footwells. The wiring diagram can be found on here somewhere, there's like 5 wires for it but you only need the 2. I usually don't like to hack into factory wiring, but with the nature of repurposing this button that's really the only option.

This. The usb-c charger in the center console is super powerful though, charges my Pixel 7 Pro very fast when needed.

Yeah, the charger is pretty weak, my Pixel 6 Pro worked one time, for at least a few minutes; I don't even bother trying any longer. My wife's relatively recent iPhone (not sure which vintage) works maybe 40% of the time.

Been using my charger for ~5 years. iPhone XR, iPhone 14, wife’s Samsung whatever model it is, all worked great just charging is a bit slow.

It will, even if you dont use it. Mine did it just from the truck being closed in the Southwest sun.

LOL, I find Qi charging useless, I find Dual Climate Control hugely useful. Why? My wife typically prefers her side of the vehicle to be an easy 10°F warmer than my side, and you know the old adage, "Happy wife, happy life."

Any way to fix the unsightly bubbles up ? I never use mine because it doesn’t work with a case in the phone. And it bubbled up. Looks ridiculous.

I doubt the behavior is phone specific as long as we are talking about newish phones. It seems to just be finicky. I generally have to reposition the phone multiple times to get it to work. It’s just not worth the hassle. Using a usb cable raises my blood pressure much less.
