I located a power front seat from a 2021 on car-part.com. The cost was $100 and the yard was 10 miles from me.
I put it in my 2017 Sport today. Finished the install today. It was pretty straight forward. Mounting holes were the same as was the wiring connectors. I ran a 30 amp fused wire from the battery for power.

The seat material pattern was different and the air bag had deployed on the new one so I swapped mine to the new frame. Removing the headrest guides was the most difficult part as that mechanism that lifts up the headrest made it very difficult to collapse the clips (I can see why there are several with "broken clips" on eBay).

The only modification needed was to cut 1 inch of foam out and cut the material where the seat switch is located. The plastic covers for the rear mounting bolts are different seat.jpg seat8.jpg seat5.jpg seat6.jpg seat7.jpg
The seat raises up/down, forward/back, tilts, and has power lumbar support.

    Excellent find, excellent work.

It's fantastic when someone makes the effort to accomplish something like this.

Most would whine about 'why didn't Toyota?' or worse go buy a new truck just to get the seat.

    Good for you!

    Oh look, another mod....
Yeah, and while we're at it, we need a Maybach edition of our Tacoma's. Extended wheel base, reclining rear seats with heated and massaging!

How much would you say this improved your seating position?

I’m not too far from you so I’m interested what yard had these for $100.

I'm surprised a wrecked third gen made it anywhere that the public could get parts from it.

Blown airbags make lots of things cheaper. But he was able to reuse his own, not buy a replacement.

On many older vehicles a front bump that deploys bags will total the vehicle, even if a fender hood and bumper cover are all it needs

I have not driven it much to tell, but it was nice to raise and tilt the seat.
I found it at General in Tiverton.
Others on car-part were over 1k miles away and the cost was over $400.

Thank you, I’ll keep it in mind.

Do you have heated seats and/or were you able to transplant?

When I redid my Corvette seats I combined five seats into two and as long as I had the right harnesses the frames themselves were the same, but I’m curious if I could get away with a non-heated seat and just transplant my guts.

    For $100 this is a no-brainer.

Power without memory is a head-scratcher to me (our Grand Cherokee is the same), but I’m the only one who drives my truck so it’s a moot point.

    True.
There was one of those seat belt defeat clips in it so driver was not belted in. Every bag deployed but the seat back was not damaged
One of the seat raiser brackets was bent (an easy fix). Not sure if that was from the accident or when it was removed from the wreck.

My '17 had heated so they went over to the new seat.

Impressive! Nice job. First I’ve heard of anyone doing this.

I know I appreciate the drivers powerd seat on my 2020. I was kinda waiting for Toyota to include these at some point on the 3rd gen so my wife would be able to comfortably drive the truck as well. When they announced that these were standard for the TRD trims and above for the 2020 MY we made the move to finally purchase a Tacoma. Memory would have been awesome as the wife likes to drive the truck just as much as me.

I have to say that this was the best mod that I have done to this Taco.

I've tried the front "Jackers" and rear spacers in all combinations and never got comfortable in that seat. Now, I press a button to angle the seat bottom and no longer have pressure on the back of my legs (which caused leg cramps on long trips).
Press another button, the seat raises and I can now see over my oversized tow mirrors.

    Very pleased!

Nice job. Having owned a 2016 without a power seat and a 2020 with one I can appreciate the upgrade. The main thing I like about the power seat is the ability to raise it up so I can see over the hood easier. I have to be honest though, I would not have put in that much effort. I have a similar issue seeing over the windshield on the boat and I solved it with a $10 cushion. It’s not nearly as convenient and flexible though. :)

This is actually what I’ve been looking for since the power seats came out in 20. Haven’t been able to find one for such a great price. More motivated to keep looking. Thanks for the post!

I would not mind customizing a power seat for the passenger seat. It will make my wifey very happy to be able make small seating position changes.

While like others here, I appreciate the effort utilized to make this happen, for me, since the material patterns did not match, that alone would have made me not do it, I mean, unless you changed all the seats. But I have just never understood the appeal of having a power seat anyway. I bought my 2019 in April of 2019, and when I got in it at the dealer, I of course, adjusted the seat before I drove it off. It has never been moved since. So I fail to see what importance it is, to have a power seat.

I think a lot of yards do not list seats with blown bags.
Most do post a lot of pics of the truck though.
Try searching for an interior part like a radio or the console and look to see if there is a pic of the seat in that truck. Contact them if the bag had deployed and if the seat back is not bent too bad.
