I put on a k&n intake about a year ago thinking it would be pretty cool and better for my truck.... I have the 3.4 v6... But it has really made the inside of my cab extremely loud when I drive on the freeway! And my gas mileage really didn't get any better at all ( which i heard it would). I'm just wondering, is this something that is a normal occurence? Is there anyway I can minimize the noise I hear inside my cab?
    Thanks for your help! :)

It being loud is normal, but are you saying it got even louder? I doubt you can do anything to quiet it, maybe send it to me?:D

They make wraps for them but I doubt they would quiet it down enough to say so. If it's too loud, go back to stock. You didn't gain anything with the K&N anyways, you might have even LOST some power.

You mean a pre filter, I thought about telling him that but it probably wont do anything, just keep the filter cleaner. Ive seen foam pre filters but Im not sure where to get those, that might make difference

No, I wasn't talking about a pre-filter. I'm talking about the sock that goes over the tubing itself. It's meant to slow heat soak but might help deaden the sound a tiny tiny bit.

Another option, sound deaden the cab.

Mileage shouldn't change. The computer maintains the perfect air/fuel mixture regardless of resistance in the filter.

I and several other Tacoma owners have switched back to the stock filter from the K&N or TRD washables because they don't filter as well and dirty up the MAF sensor, causing symptoms like loss of power, bad mileage, rough idling, stalling and CEL. It will take a while though and it is easily remedied by cleaning the MAF sensor with MAF sensor cleaner.

After the second time I had to do it, though, I went back to the stock paper filter. It happened really quickly the second time as I was off-roading on roads that produced extremely fine dust.

There are guys that swear by the K&N's and TRD filters but IMHO they are extremely overrated. I also think that if they are dirtying up the MAF sensor, they might also be causing other components to be exposed to more dirt than the paper filter.

    Ditto.

Lost power, and lost a LOT of filtering quality.

May as well not even have a filter on there.

Agreed with all other posts. I noticed a gain of 1-2 mpg when i went back to stock also i would much prefer the filtering ability of the stock intake vs the k&n. But i also prefer a snorkel over that. I have a tendancy to fet stupid with my truck so having a back up insurance plan is all the better.... especially when i already locked up one motor with two broken connecting rods a cracked block and crankshaft girdle....
