Tonight I used remote start on my 2020 limited via the key fob. When I opened the door the truck remained running. I pushed the truck start button and the truck shut off.I then tried to restart it but it would not start after multiple tries and 15 minutes later it started. Has this happened to anyone else?
    Any thought are appreciated!

There have been a few posts of this happening. It's like the system temporarily gets locked into autostart mode and won't do anything else until it self resets. If it continues to do it though, a trip to the dealer may be in order.

Has happened to me on my 2020 as well. Truck remote started, I unlocked the vehicle by grabbing the driver's side door handle with the engine still running, door unlocked but the truck kept running. I tried to shift to reverse, engine shut off and push button start wouldn't work. I waited about 10 minutes, at which point the engine would start without issue.

A possible work around is to just unlock via the fob, it's only happened to me while using the door handle to unlock.

I haven't asked the dealer to look at it, because it's one of those issues that they won't be able to replicate. My research on here pointed to either a weak signal from the touch sensor in the door handle or possible interference in the signal caused by aftermarket LED lighting in the cabin? No idea if either of those are true.

I had this happen a few months ago. My battery died in the cold a few days later. Replaced battery, this hasn't happened since.

Happened a couple of times on my 2020, so now I just unlock with fob first...have not had the issue since I started doing it that way.

Happened again today. Went to start the truck iwth push start, rapid clicking noise after releasing push button and the headlights were rapidly flashing. Disconnected the battery and waited an hour to reconnect, the same noise and light flashing occured.
disconnected battery again and reconnected with a jumper battery attached. The truck started up. Shut the truck off and removed jumper battery and the truck starts normally.....crazy!!!

Replace the battery. First thing to do when the electrical weirdness starts. Stock batteries suck!

The 2020 Tacoma does have a remote start. System is call the “Toyota Remote Connect”, $8.00 a month or $80.00 a year.
    Includes remotely lock/unlock
    Performs a vehicle status check
Gives update on driving information when a “guest” is driving you vehicle
Finds where you park your Tacoma, a vehicle finder.

Sounds like the system does not work very good.? Or there is some issues still on going?

I've experienced this same thing with my 2020 TRD Pro.

It has happened to me 3 times in total (so far). The first time was just over a year of ownership.

Scenario is the same each time. Use the keyfob to remote start but when you approach the vehicle to get in the engine continues to run. Push to start button kills the engine but subsequently the push to start will only power on accessories, it doesn't start the engine.

First time I attempted to start about 10 times over a 15-20 minute period. After around 20 minutes it started. This puzzled me for a while.

Second time I decided to experiment and pulled the fuse for the DCM under the hood on the assumption that it had to do with the remote connected services. I never paid for, used, wanted or downloaded the app for any of the remote services but figured that the truck might be attempting to phone home. Replaced the fuse and it started up the next attempt. Did the same thing on the third time that I experienced the strange remote start.

A few days after this happened to me the 2nd time I experimented by removing the DCM fuse (keeping it removed) and attempting to remote start with the keyfob. While doing this I was unsuccessful in getting the vehicle to remote start at all. I could lock and unlock the doors but not get it started with the fob.

The truck has not behaved like this for a few months and I have not done any further testing to prove its connection to remote services, but I saw this thread today and having experienced the same thing figured I'd contribute.

Wonder if this has any connection to the recall concerning trying to restart inside a short window after shutting off the trucks? Seems like a long time from OP's initial post to a recall but idk!
