Lately I've noticed that my Push Button Start/Stop button seems to be malfunctioning. I will shut off the truck using the button, engine will stop, but ignition will still be on. When I began to notice it I thought maybe I just didn't push the button correctly, but now it is becoming a more common occurrence.

This only happens when shutting the truck off, not on startup.

    Anyone else notice this?

maybe you are holding the button down too long when turning it off?

I tested that theory as well, but that doesn't seem to be the case. I also thought I was pressing too quickly, but that doesn't seem to be the case either...

Sounds like it's in accessory mode in the ignition. Try pressing it twice:notsure:.
I have a actual key for mine... so just throwing stuff into the fan.

the radio shuts off for a second then cycles back on, that's how I initially noticed that it was happening. To eventually turn it off I just have to push it again until it actually shuts off completely.

sounds like there's a bad contact in the button that's re-engaging after you press it the first time

If you know another tacoma owner near you, maybe you can swap the switch out. Installing a known good switch is what I would try. GL.

Interesting...curious if your foot was on the brake when you pushed the button to shut off the engine? I've never encountered that problem and my foot has always been off the brake when I kill the engine. Just throwing it out there.

I think my next move will be to buy the switch and swap it out and hope for the best, don't want to go fooling with another taco owner's electronics...

very strange that i'm the only one experiencing this though right?o_O

Make sure you can return the switch. Then it will be a free diagnostic attempt.

I think I usually have my foot off the brake on shutoff, but I'll definitely test and see what happens.

I was more surprised that I didn't find any other threads on the subject (not to write off the possibility that my google-fu game is weak though...)

even with more rare issues there always seems to be other threads out here

    Try the voodoo fixer upper.

Pull the both battery cables (negative first off and last on) and touch both together for about 10sec while disconnected.

If you shut off in neutral, it stays in accessory mode. If you’re definitely in Park, could it be a faulty neutral start switch? Or, are you shutting off while you move it from Drive to Park and it”s detecting the Off signal when it is (or thinks it’s in) Neutral?
